3+1 NFL Challenge - 2006: Week 2

Standings after Week 1

Here

Requests for Week 2

(1) Please list picks from highest to lowest ($400 -> $100), not vice versa.

(2) Please post your official picks using team numbers. This is not intended to kill discussion. Talk about the games all you want, go into details about your picks using team names, etc. However, at the end of your post, please use the team numbers as in the example below. This will save me a lot of time, as I'm using lookup functions in Excel to do all the grading.

Maybe a suggestion... post the number, then the bet like I am doing, so people can still see who is being picked without scrolling back to the top

409 Lions $400
412 Vikings $300
414 Eagles $200
415 Bucs $100

Homer if you want, to put the standings up on a seperate webpage I could host the page

That's the Saints, Lions, Browns, and Bucs for those of you scoring at home. 4 road teams is very unlike me; I probably picked 90% home teams last year and 4 in the 1st week this year. No easy $ Lions/Rams home dog picks this week, which happened to go against public opinion, but not intentionally so.
The short list of things that swayed my opinion compared to what I thought before week 1 includes the Raiders (worse than I thought), Ravens (better than I thought), Chiefs (worse than I thought) and Reggie Bush (better than I thought). Unfortunately Vegas seems to agree on most of these so I'm still basing this week's picks on preseason instincts.

Yeah, the way you posted the picks works for me. As long as I can see the numbers somewhere...really does save me a lot of time.

We should host the standings, I agree. Preferably, not on someone's affiliate page or anything like that. Is it cheap to get a webhost and all that stuff?

I'm assuming we can bet the same game twice. I looked throught last weeks thread but never saw a final decision on it. If we can't let me know and I'll change my last pick.

MIN +2 vs CAR

I've written this in another thread as well, but I feel that Carolina should only be this close to MIN if everything pans out well for them this week. They need Smith back, they need to iron out those penalties, oh, and creating some kind of offensive playbook would help them a bit too.

Now the downside is that all of these things are likely to happen, but for me, if they get it all together nicely THEN -2 is about right.

In the meantime, MIN have put together an opening day win, albeit a bit of a messy one, but they were away from home to Washington and improved as the game went on. I don't think they'll get stomped even against a vastly improved Panthers outfit, and that 2 points might even be enough to swing it for us.

DET @ CHI u32

"LOL"

I kept looking at Detroit +9.5 here thinking "Well, they'll stop Chicago scoring 10 most of the time anyway", but the more I looked, the more I thought that 10 might be a massive score in this one.
I figured that I'm more likely to see a Chicago 20-7 win than I am to see a 9-0 and that instead of giving Detroit what amounts to a HUGE start in this match, I'll go with the apparent BSP play of betting on there being hardly any points at all.

BUF +6.5 @ MIA

This one doesn't have as much work put in, but I felt that Miami looked woeful on opening night and that Buffalo are capable of getting a few points together. I can see them actually winning the matchup from time to time, so a near-touchdown start seems very nice indeed.

KC vs DEN -10.5

This was always going to be my $400 pick until Green got donked. KC simply sucks on the road and DEN rocks at home. Whenever they've met in the last five years, KC have lost, mostly heavily. They were fave to win at least one of those matches, and I believe more, but either way I doubt they've covered any.
Sadly , the donking of Green has pushed the line into sillyville, and really I think this is a no-bet. However having lined this one up nice and early, I'd puke if I didn't have something on it, so it's in the $100 slot just for entertainment.

Lori (3+1 so far 4-0-0.... Guess I'll post it while it lasts )

San Diego (-11 1/2) : I think this line should be higher. San Diego was very conservative with Rivers against Oakland, but the Raiders gave them no reason to do anything different, and Rivers was fine when he did throw. I still like Rivers chances of picking up reasonably close to where Brees left off. Chargers played a ridiculously tough schedule in going 9-7 last year, and of course were 12-4 the year before. They have scored a lot of points in home games the last two years, and of course Tennessee is not a good team defensively. Last year the Titans lost by 14 or more in all 4 road games they played against winning teams. Travis Henry and Chris Brown both are being bothered by turf toe injuries suffered against the Jets, and of course they're starting Kerry Collins after signing him a week before the season. The Chargers have a bye week after this game, so they have no reason to look past Tennessee. I'm betting on a blow out.

Seattle (-7) : I did not see the Sea - Det game, but before getting too nervous about Sea not looking good, I'd note that they played nail biters on the road last year against SF and Tennessee, so Det shouldn't necessarily be a complete shock. Arizona is a team they handled 37-12 and 33-19 last year. They have Edgerrin James now, but still had trouble running on San Fran. Seattle lost Steve Hutchinson, and that is a concern. I'll bet they can still run on Arizona though.

Philadelphia (-3) : Giants offensive line dominated the Colts, but IIRC, did have some false starts. Guessing they'll be some more of those. I didn't see any of Philly in week one, but I'm believing what I've read about them being healthy and solid on both O-line and D-line. The Eagles owned the Giants in the pre T.O. deep playoff runs - McNabb did not play in either of the Giants victories over Philly last year. I know these aren't all the same Giants, but I like the fact that they are coming off that Sunday night home game. I'm betting on McNabb and the Eagles returning to pre-T.O. form and getting a win at home giving just the 3.

Buffalo (+6.5) : Don't know how good Losman is going to end up being, and haven't seen much of him myself, but figure he should at least be improved with his rookie year behind him (though it sure looked like he should have had the awareness to avoid that safety last week). Buffalo played Miami tough last year with Losman (winning once and losing by 1 in the other game), has Spikes back, and seems to play division foes tough on the road lately. Since I have to take a fourth game I'll take the 6 1/2 pts.
