Has anyone played at Treasure Island in Vegas?

I will be there for 5 days in July and was wondering what you guys thought of the action. Has anyone had any luck with comps(ie free meals, discounted rooms) and if so how long did you play and what limits did you play?

Re: Has anyone played at Treasure Island in Vegas?

It's a small room, but attractive in a modern kind of way (where Caesars and Venetian are light and airy, and Monte Carlo and Wynn are warm and clubby, TI is more dark and nightclub).

Very much a small stakes kind of room.

If you can get the 3/6 Mixed game to go, you will have a blast.

Re: Has anyone played at Treasure Island in Vegas?

os,

I played three tourneys there the weekend of May 18-20. The room looks nice, drink service is very good, and it seems to be well managed but is in a weird location behind the main casino near the shops (convenient for tram to Mirage tho.) It's a fairly small (10 tables) low stakes room with $2-4 limit, $1-2 NL, and a $3-6 limit mixed game that they got going on Saturday night but not Friday or Sunday.

The tourneys were fun, well run and a decent value for <$100 ($60 buy-in + $5 add-on) . The players were mostly pretty bad and it didn't become a pushfest for awhile due to no antes. Friday night's 7pm had 44 runners, I finished 3rd of 50 in Saturday's 10pm for $466, and Sunday at 10pm we only got 14 players.

A friend of mine played $2/4 limit for awhile and seemed like the typical $2/4 game, not too crazy but loose-passive calling stations everywhere. Friday and Sat nights the room was full but Sunday had one tourney table and one $2-4 game after about 7pm. I'm guessing mid-week is similar to Sun.

good luck.

Re: Has anyone played at Treasure Island in Vegas?

I played three tournaments there. Chopped 1/2 in the first two and went out on the bubble in the third, so I'm a TI fan. (My bf and I chopped the second.)

Didn't get comps, etc., so can't help you there.

As stated, it's a smaller, darker room with only about nine tables. Half naked ladies on some of the tables (in the felt, not on it). Very attractive servers, and I'm a woman and noticed, so they must be OK. Service was a little slow, but not bad (maybe because I'm a woman, but I tipped well).

Dealers were good and played in the tourneys. My bf played in a few cash 1/2NL games one of the days, and it was a bit loose. A few friends were there together and they got some fun games going.

Re: Has anyone played at Treasure Island in Vegas?

I play there almost exclusively.

It only has 8 tables, but the action is often incredible at the 1/3NL game. It has a $500 max, just like Caesars, but it is almost always all tourists, as TI strictly a tourist room, really.

Most buy in for $100-300. Very few buy in for the max, which I like (I always buy max, and instantly cover the table most of the time).

It plays like an entry level 2/5 game. Opening raises are usually the standard $10-15.

For comps, it is the most generous in the city, next to IP.

They give $2 per hour on the MGM Mirage card, no max, and it can be used in ALL of their restaurants (everything from Starbucks to the Steak House).

michael..you have to get a mirage card? TI doesn't have their own?

how do you play those tourists? bet big with the nuts?

Re: Has anyone played at Treasure Island in Vegas?

It is an MGM Mirage card. It is the same card that all MGM Mirage properties use (but not amm MGM properties give poker comps on the card, like Bellagio/Mirage).

You do not need to get the card ahead of time. They will make you one in the poker room. Just ask the dealer when you sit down at the table, and the floor will make one for you. They swipe at the table itself, like MGM.

The staff is phenomenal. In fact, I have played in every poker room in Las Vegas, and can honestly say that it is the most friendly and customer oriented staff I have EVER seen. Chris, Danette, and Troy run a very tight ship there.

Re: Has anyone played at Treasure Island in Vegas?

I like playing there most of the time. The only problem is it tends to attract players like LasVegasMichael. No offense meant towards him, but sometimes the table starts filling up with pros. One or two is not so bad, but I've seen four at my table, which makes it awfully tough on a person with limited skills. I don't know if the floor there has lots of friends they call when it gets good, or what.

Re: Has anyone played at Treasure Island in Vegas?

Fair point, but it is rare that all the regulars are at the same table at the same time.

Major difference between TI and other places when it comes to this is twofold. First, there are only about 5-7 regulars that play there in the evening, and they are rarely all there at the same time. Compared to other rooms, this is a very small number of grinders. Second, because it is only an 8 table room, when there are a few regs there at once, it is much more obvious then it would be at a bigger room, since they usually only have 2-3 NL games going at night.

It is easy to spot the regs, and at times, even easier to beat them, once you get used to the way some of them play.

Last time I was there, they were coming in shifts. There were four on my table, one would leave after awhile only to be replaced by another.

We had only one game going, or I would have asked for a table change.

Re: Has anyone played at Treasure Island in Vegas?

You should definitely go over to the Rio - go around to the convention center parking - and go see the WSOP stuff. They lowest NL they're spreading is 2/5 but even just to go check it out, it's worth the trip. You've never seen so much poker in one room. You can go sit in the stands and sweat a final table if one is going on and it's a really neat experience.

If you take a cab, tell him you want to go to the WSOP area, NOT the Rio hotel/casino or you have to walk like a mile inside to get to the WSOP stuff.

Well today is the day. I hope to play in the 10PM or 2AM tourney at Treasure Island. How many people usually play in those? I am hoping for a soft field to get me started off on a roll.

Middle of the week with the WSOP over? 15, maybe 20. 2 am probably won't go. Check the PH 2 am, it almost always goes.

I went to TI last time I was there and looked around for at least 20 minutes and still couldn't find the stupid room

LasVegasMichael 07-18-2007 02:11 PM

Re: Has anyone played at Treasure Island in Vegas?

I seriously doubt it. The 2AM has been consisently at least two full tables earlier this week.

It will probably be 3-4 tables at least at 10PM, more then likely 4-5, honeslty.

Planet Hollywood is amongst my least favorite poker rooms in Vegas, and is simply not worth it most of the time. Lack of autoshuffers and pain in the ass parking don't do it for me there. Plus, the NL cash game strcuture there leaves much to be desired ($50-200 with 1/2 blinds).

The TI cash game stcuture of 1/3 $500 max allows for good play, bad players, and deeper stacks. Always a good mix.

I will be there tomorrow night more then likely. Played there about 40 hours over the weekend, and it was good times.

By the self parking garage escalator/tram to Mirage, down the hallway that leads to Kahunaville and Starbucks and the pool. Lots of walkby traffic.

I use the chip shown in my avatar as my card capper. If you are playing NL this weekend or later this week, look for me. Played alongside another 2+2er the other night and we had good times chatting for a few hours.

Sorry I missed you Michael.

I was at TI all day July 7, (Sat). I asked one of the dealers if he knew you, he did. Youngish, slim fellow, sort of light hair. Said you would probably be in later.

But, as far as I know, you took that day off.

Hopefully, we can rendezvous on your next trip.

The $1-3 game has always been good action when I was there. It plays like a $2-5 at times

Re: Has anyone played at Treasure Island in Vegas?

I played the TI $1/$3 2 weeks ago when I was there. I was plying it like a $2/$5 wih $15-$30 raises preflop. It was working nicely as people were getting tired of me running the table over but didnt know what to do about it.

LasVegasMichael 07-19-2007 10:57 AM

Re: Has anyone played at Treasure Island in Vegas?

That is the great thing about the 1/3 at TI. Since it has a $500 max, it plays like a 2/5, but due to the $1 chips used for blinds and the ability to buy in for $100-300, the walk in tourists will still happily play it, whereas they would not play a 2/5.

Since 1/3 is obviously their smallest NL game (and the only one they spread on a regular basis) it has a nice balance of players. I call it "entry level 2/5" since it does play like a 2/5, but has a buy in range and walk in clientele that make it not intimidating for John Q. Tourist, unlike the 2/5 at Venetian, where the tourists have the option of playing 1/2 instead.

At face value, it looks like a vanilla 1/2 game but with a $3 blind sinstead of a $2, since it is the only NL game they offer, and is the default game at most casinos. Only when you critically evaluate the game (something that most tourists don't do), you will see that the $500 max does have an effect on the game, and the players that notice that effect are the ones that end up beating it consistently.

Standard preflop raises are usually $10-15 depending on who's playing. I have seen the standard raise be $15-20, but that is not as common during the day (usually at night). Plus there is usually always some players that make laughable raises of <$10. Obviously, I go out of my way to call those, as I know it will be a nice multiway pot.

Stadard raises of >$20 is very uncommon at this game, from my experiences, but it does happen on occasion. Usually stemming from one player that is pushing the action at the table.

Straddles are common, however. Since you can straddle ANY amount from UTG, it is a common move by a lot of people. Usually, they just straddle to the minimum, $6, but I have seen straddes in excess of $10 more then a few times.

No, it was 2/5 1K max. The game rarely spreads at TI except during super peak times like WSOP and peak vacation weekends.

Re: Has anyone played at Treasure Island in Vegas?

Just got back from an all nighter there, and to my SHOCK, we managed to get a 5 handed 3/6 mixed game going at 7:30AM!

Exceptionally rare, but a great game nonetheless. I left my NL game for it, as it a couple other players.

Our mix was Crazy Pineapple, Razz, Stud Hi, O8, and Badugi. Badugy and CP were my favorites, but all were good times. I hated leaving, but had to get home.

We have been getting $5 a point CHinese going almost every night this week as well. Usually the game only lasts a couple hours and it is usually always the same guys playing, but it is great that TI is willing to spread such a low EV game for us on a regular basis (so to not take away from the dealers, Chris, the manager, of deals the Chinese game).

When I left, the mixed game was still at 5 players, but another was coming. Good times.

Nice.

Worth repeating, that TI 3/6 mixed game is some of the most fun I have had playing cards in LV.

Great that you got it going at so late an hour and shorthanded.

LVM, do you regularly try to talk up that game and get it going when you play TI?
