Brain storm: How do we bring down Absolute?

Absolute needs to be punished for their ineptness in the super user scandal.

What they should have done:

1. realized sooner they've been compromised
2. banned players involved
3. reimbursed some players
4. made a statement that they've rectified the situation and everything is under control
5. realize NOW that they've been compromised

They have done none of the above. Absolute management has proven time and again that they are inept and are willing to try to sweep this under the rug. We can't allow that to happen. From what I can tell, their player base is staying steady or its even increasing. 2+2ers randomly quiting is not enough, it might even help them in the long run (fish become robusto, they become the loosest site on the net).

So, how can we hurt them the most?

Not allowing them to advertise on respectable poker sites is a start. Thats kind of a lose/lose though.

My idea is a boycott lasting a day once a week. The people playing there should spam the chat 6 days a week pointing uninformed players to a website where they'll be asked to boycott absolute every Wednesday. This will hurt Absolute in 2 ways, first losing most of their rake for a day a week will wreak havoc on their operating budgets and second the people that still show up on Wednesday will get aggravated by the lack of traffic. If this continues to be a weekly boycott you will see their numbers dwindle over time.

What do you guys think? Any better ideas out there?

I did just get finished playing an eight hour session so that pic is kind of how I feel...

Cliffnotes of the OP: Lets try to organize a boycott of Absolute for one day a week.

No, let's boycott them SEVEN days a week. Like I do.

Re: Brain storm: How do we bring down Absolute?

boycotting them 1 day per week seems like it would have zero chance of accomplishing anything imo. I might be wrong though. I already boycot them 7 days a week anyway.

We just sit back. Sounds like they did a good job on their own.

They did a good job of proving they are incompetent fools. The site is still running as strong as it ever has though.

Boycotts never work...

There is already positive "awareness" movements going on..Read the thread in BBV..A few examples
1..Cardplayer Mag contacted Waco and/or Marco for an interview
2..Bluff Mag has tried to talk to Absolute before they make a decision on an article..More action possible here
3..BWs no longer lists ABS or UB..
4..Call it the "Tee Shirt" campaign..

Read the thread there is more info and details

I have high hopes that Absolute Poker will follow the Soviet model, where stagnation, mistreatment of the people, and resistance to reform eventually led to the massive implosion.

I plan to continue my 7 day a week boycott of Absolute.

didn't William try to start a boycot of Party amongst 2+2'ers back in the day? Maybe it was just a petition, don't remember now.
I do recall being in the minority as thinking it wasn't a great idea.

1.)true
2.)pretty sure they did
3.)haven't done
4.)they did
5.)not sure if they have realized they've been compromised

Also a 2+2 lockout of Abso will do nothing because:
1.) The people affected by this are all 5/10+, which is less than 2% of the sites traffic.
2.) The vast majority of people there aren't 2+2
3.) I'd cross anyways

If this boycott gets big (which it won't) make sure you boys keep us updatd on your success... I don't have an account there currently but if this thing is successful (which it won't be) you can count on me being among the first scab players to cross your digital picket line into the 2+2 nit-free site...

lol @ sucking at poker so bad that you have to betray both common sense and any sense of loyalty to the online poker community you may have (well, I guess you don't have any) that even if it hurts you, your profitability, and the integrity of every poker site in the long run, you'll still go play on Absolute. Have fun grinding out ten dollars an hour while I'm crushing the NL games on FTP.

Re: Brain storm: How do we bring down Absolute?

Kidnap one support member per day until the situation has been rectified, or until they only have one individual left on their support team.

This means that we should have their whole team captured in 4 days.

**support team member = monkey

MaddyBerg 10-16-2007 04:12 AM

Re: Brain storm: How do we bring down Absolute?

On second though, I retract that statement.

Having no support will not bring down absolute, Their current state is proof of that.

I agree that a 2+2 boycott won't have much effect, we need a mass boycott. Get the word out, spam the chat with something like

"There is a boycott of Absolute planned for Wednesday, Oct 17. Visit www.absolutehackscom for details"

Or something.

It's kinda like drunk driving. People say "oh that's so horrible" but dont change or do anything until one of their family members or friends are killed by a drunk driver.

The more public this becomes the worst it is for online poker in general. This will only give the avg player another reason not to play online. I feel for the players that were victims of the superuser but fear that if this became big news to the general public we would all suffer.

I've been trying to say the same. The thing is people on 2p2 don't realize that the average person will not distinguish between AP and any other site. They will hear that online poker is 'rigged' (just like they always thought) and won't play anywhere. Why the hell is everyone on here so excited to get this out in the open?? As I've said in previous posts, if you don't like AP, don't F***ING play there.

At this point, I personally don't care. It is better to take the near term publicity hit than to let this site go on essentially stealing a million dollars from its customers.

Understand this: it doesn't have to be an upper management hack for this to be true. The site has a responsibility to the players to keep their money safe, and this breach, even if its by one rogue programmer, is functionally equivalent to a hacker stealing a million dollars from people's account balances at whatever bank AP uses. As long as AP denies a hack took place, they are complicit in that theft, and that in turn means that in the future, others can go on doing the same thing without repercussions. Security through obscurity doesn't work.

At this point, either AP refunds the affected players' money and explains themselves (not even necessarily publicly - if they had made it clear they were on top of it to those of us doing the digging two weeks ago, I for one would happily have dropped and buried the whole thing), or they can be blacklisted by the entire industry. The fact that we now know it was an inside job for certain makes it imperative that this happens.

KSOT 10-17-2007 01:46 AM

Re: Brain storm: How do we bring down Absolute?

In my defense, I posted that before I knew this was actually an inside job.

Now I am joining the boycott whether it exists or not.

Even more newsworthy than a cheating online site is the fact online players now have the means and technology to bust one. Silver lining.

Re: Brain storm: How do we bring down Absolute?

You just get it out into the mainstream press.
It's interesting enough even to a non-poker player as a human interest/technology story.

Also sites like BW blacklisting are are going to have some effect.

If the first thing you came across when you searched on google was a googlebomb for the superuser scandal that might hurt them a bit too. (try 'French Military Victories' for an example
