WSEX: Official Thread: August & September. (#12 of 13.)

Owing to continued demand, once again we have a central thread for questions, suggestions, complaints, and general discussion about WSEX.

Keeping everything in one thread helps everyone interested in WSEX to find full information, and those not interested know which thread not to read, so thank you for supporting the idea.

The WSEX GM makes a point of reading this thread every day or two, whereas he doesn't have time to search for individual comment threads scattered about the forum. If you want to be sure he sees your questions, etc, then you should post here.

For reference, the previous thread, #11 of 13, is here.

Hello Everyone and thanks Mike.

I was away for a bit, but I have been through the last thread.

We did an update today, it was mostly backend stuff to improve stability and performance. On the front end, you will see an option for large cards at your seat and the ability to hide your cards after folding if you like.

There's tremendous value in the $5,000 added tournaments three nights a week. They only cost you $25 in net rake per week to participate.

Please keep the comments and suggestions coming.

Fred,

You need a more "user friendly" deposit method for US players. Why no ePassport?

Longtime WSEX sports bettor and played some poker. Made withdrawal on JUNE 23, yet to see a check.

What can I do?

I want to load up for football season, but don't know what the chances of getting a withdrawal are in the rare event I win.

Can we get an update on the state of WSEX funding and deposit methods.

Is this a requirement to play every week? The way I understood it before, once you'd accrued $75 in rake in any prior week you were good.

Please Clarify.

It says here that you get to play in this week's VIP tourneys only if you had $75 in rakeback the previous week. So, yes, you have to make the rakeback amount every week, not just once.

Did you pay $30 for courier service? If so then you should see your check 1-3 weeks after you request it. If not you will be waiting more like 4-7 weeks. But they always arrive, no worries.

Yesterday I withdraw 200 dollar by Airmail,

now I see they charged 30 dollar for Overnight Mail,

which i did not select, would be quite moronic to pay 30 dollar to get 200 dollar...

But knowing their Accounts department they will not be available on Live Chat, nor will they respond to my email for about 3 days, so I guess im [censored].

I have never played at your site. Downloaded and created an account but never deposited. If you had Epassporte I would have deposited on the spot. I understand why you don't have Epassporte. But I for one am not willing to spend any time on trying to come up with an alternate way to deposit. Not when I can open any other site that I have money on and just play without trying to figure out a new way to deposit to try a new site. Also I don't bet sports often maybe a few games a year during the football season. I thought I would place those bets with you if I deposited but when I looked at the your line and Bodog's line well that was the end of it. I wound up placing a bet with Bodog (1K bet).

P.S And I actually like your site graphics. Just a potential customer you don't have giving you feedback.

I find their support to pretty good, email response within one day and someone always picks up the phone when you call, there are many worse outfits out there. As for the cheqque thing, they did to me once, but fixed it up right away. I soon learnt that the slower way is not the way to go (not as reiable). Still waiting for a cheque from almost 3 months ago.

I think he's looking at it from the point of how much you pay them - to get $75 in rakeback you'll have to generate $100 in rake, so the big overlay tourney only "costs" you $25

MicroBob 08-03-2007 02:08 PM

Re: WSEX: Official Monthly Thread: August. (#12 of 12.)

oh yeah, that must be it.

I was thinking that maybe he was looking at it as $75 contributed rakeback per week for 3 VIP tourns. Thus it costs $25 rakeback to participate in each one.

But he did say $25 in NET RAKE and not in rakeback which was a distinction I didn't notice in my current pre-coffee state.

For all of you who find it difficult to deposit, have you ever tried a wire transfer? They're very, very easy to do. It takes minutes at your bank or brokerage and can often be done online. The money may get there the same day.

Personally, I know that I have all but stopped playing at wpex since they reduced the rakeback. And the few times I've played there since, it seems like there is even less traffic than before.

I have two questions: 1: Has the site's traffic gone down significantly since the new rakeback percentage went into effect?

....and 2: Did they change rakeback to "contributed" ?

Palomino 08-04-2007 05:29 AM

Re: WSEX: Official Monthly Thread: August. (#12 of 12.)

The traffic is definately way down since the rakeback went to 75%. I'm lucky if I can get more than 2 3/6 tables going...even during the aces promo. And no, I don't believe that it is contributed yet.

The guys claim to know what they are doing, they have meetings, where the experts evaluate the situation and come up with ideas for improvement.....but it gets worse every day.

I really wonder, how much would they pay someone to get their traffic up to reasonable numbers. The problem seems to be that nobody in the company has the courage to admit that they are totally clueless.

I like WSEX, and log in almost everyday. Lately, it is hard to find a game. Unfortunately, even though they are a great value, the tournaments don't fit my schedule.

Re: WSEX: Official Monthly Thread: August. (#12 of 12.)

I don't know if I'm the only one, but please try and make the connection more stable. The last three times I've played, I've gotten "disconnected" at least once, but it wasn't on my end: I was still able to browse 2+2 just fine. Between this, no games and a couple other things, there's really just not much of a reason to play there.

Re: WSEX: Official Monthly Thread: August. (#12 of 12.)

Let me ask a simple question, why can't WSEX not afford a senior programmer staff.

The software is the worst in the industry, the mouse gets stuck, you don't see the rivercard by a showdown when you get moved to another table, it is incompatible with playing on other pokerclients at the same time.

The whole application has just has an aweful look and is NOT user friendly.

Its just like the software was written ten years ago and the staff doesn't know how to improve it.
Let your programmers just play a week on other pokersites and they will see what crap they have developed.

Playing WSEX is like ridding a bycicle when you can have a Mercedes playing on other sites.

what is the timeline for a cashout via check to the US from WPEX? I requested it a long time ago, a couple weeks if not a month...
it hurt me to cashout, I love the site, but with no one else playing there I just didn't want to have the $ tied up.

Listen....WPEX needs improvement. No one here has ever stated it is perfect. I am all for brainstorming ways to make the site better. Posts like yours, though, are composed of nothing but vague pissing and moaning with no real suggestions other than "get better dammit!" If you have some specific ideas and suggestions...I think we're all open to hearing them.

jafeather 08-05-2007 01:24 AM

Re: WSEX: Official Monthly Thread: August. (#12 of 12.)

My thoughts on ways to improve WPEX (some repeats from July):

- Move tourney blind levels to 15 minutes.
- Move VIP tourney blind levels to 20-30 minutes, and increase starting chips.
- Move SNGs to time-based blind increases.
- Switch to 6-max SNGs.
- Insert new blind levels in MTTs between some of your more drastic increases.
- Make it so reloading at cash tables is a much quicker process.
- Add some nightly $20 or $25 tourneys with $700-$1000 guarantees.
- Implement a FPP store, and increase the number of higher FPP buy-in tourneys. Perhaps some FPP SNGs?
- Lower the number of freerolls...do something better with the money.
- Make "Aces Never Lose" payments automatic.
- Satellites into your "Higher Stakes" tourneys...including SNG sats. Help these things fill.
- Have at least one WSOP seat package tourney. You're a small site, so start the qualifying early.
- Have a VIP Only WSOP Tourney. If you're doing $15K added a week already, then have this tourney have 1 or 2 WSOP seats added.
- When I found your site a few years ago, it was because of a commercial I saw on CNBC. Now that you're getting a little rake, let's get the ads running again.
- Add some of the more convenient funding methods. Stay competitive in this.
- First time deposit bonus. Occasional reload bonuses.
- Make bonuses challenging to receive. Fish don't know the difference and whores don't hit and run the site.

Tell me one site which has a worse software.

If the software wouldn't be that bad, traffic would have been better than Stars or FT.
Who wouldn't have played rakefree with a first class software.

Jay Leno once said in his show, let GM's or Ford's CEO drive around the block in a Honda or Toyota and they will know why they have a deficit.

With this software WSEX can't succeed, either they join a Network or they remodel their software from ground zero.

It's a fact.

Fact is: WPEX has the best rake-offer on the market, but instead of gaining customers, they are losing them. Don't tell me "it's not that bad". It is obviously not good enough and they must be doing something wrong that other sites are doing right.

Once again it is time to review the conceptional differences and the first one that comes to my mind is the inability to use Poker Ace. If that is what people need to play their A-game and if that is what they want, then let them have it. It is like doping, if everyone is doing it, it doesn't hurt the competition. Datamining is just one example from a long list of issues with this site.

Shandrax 08-05-2007 02:11 AM

Re: WSEX: Official Monthly Thread: August. (#12 of 12.)

I am going to repeat my number one idea to steal all NL traffic worldwide:

Make it optional (checkbox or button) to "run it twice" in NL cash-games. So whenever you got an all-in situation and both players agree on it, deal out the cards twice and chop the pot if needed. Alternatively, simply offer "run it twice"-tables to eliminate decision time.

jafeather 08-05-2007 02:22 AM

Re: WSEX: Official Monthly Thread: August. (#12 of 12.)

In response to Shandrax's post:

I did not mean "the state of the site's not that bad." I meant "The software's not as bad as Lorenza's making it." I also appreciate you doing what needs to be done in suggesting improvements. I like your "run it twice" idea. I doubt it alone would help the site, but it's the kinda thing that nowhere else offers that can draw attention to a site.

This response does nothing to suggest anything. I don't understand what good anyone gets from "waaaahhhhh it needs fixed" posts, without any suggestions about what's specifically wrong or how to improve it. Nonetheless, I will attempt to address your mostly pointless issues.

A) Again, this is a total matter of opinion. IMHO, wpex is not the worst software. I play some on sportsbook.com, and IMO their software is way, way worse and is not the only one.

B) I have no idea where you get this from. This is just a random thought based on nothing remotely tangible.

C) People who must have HUDs. People who must play on sites that allow more than 4-tabling. People who don't want to jump through hoops to get money on a site. People who don't want to wait forever for a check. Fish who don't understand the importance of no-rake.

Policy is a larger reason people do not play than software...again imo.

D) Again....do you really think wpex doesn't know what the other sites software is like?

E) There are many reasons WPEX may or may not succeed, software is just a piece of the much larger puzzle.

F) It is not a fact. It is an opinion.

Dude, are you high? It's not the software. To explain why, let's go back to 2003 for a second.

2003- Small site Party has [censored] software and 2,000 players. WPT airs and has their host, Mike Sexton, telling all the fish to go to partypoker.com (com ads were allowed then). Site hits 10,000 players in a month and can not handle the traffic.

Multiple crashes daily were the norm (much worse than wsex a year ago), and support was horrible. They still have a horrible support reputation (even though support is now stellar in comparison to their 2003 staff). Despite these issues, the site flourished. Why? The software didn't improve until they had over 50,000 players, yet in 2004, with [censored] software and [censored] support, they had surpassed Stars' numbers.

MicroBob 08-05-2007 11:29 AM

Re: WSEX: Official Monthly Thread: August. (#12 of 12.)

Party still had kind of crappy software even after they surprassed 50k players.

Others mentioned the MTT buy-in's.
Sorry to rip on WPEX because I really like them and what they are trying to do. But I think it's almost laughable that they have $5 and $10 buy-in's and then when they decide to add higher buy-in's they toss in $100, $300 and $500 MTT's that almost anyone can see is not going to draw many/any participants.

I don't follow it all too much over there but it wouldn't surprise me if almost none of those $500 tourneys ever went off.

They actually do have a $20 level but it's conveniently scheduled at 5:30am.
maybe they have them at other times throughout the week but it looks like it's just this one time per day.
Looks like they also throw in one $25 MTT per week.

It's just weird.
They have a bunch of $2, $5 and $10 buy-in MTT's.
So when people request they had some MTT's at slightly higher stakes it's like they're saying, "Okay then, here's a $100, $300 and $500. Is that high enough for you?"

I don't know if they would have that many people play $20's and $30's and $50's anyway.
But skipping that level and then adding up to $500 MTT's is just ridiculous.
