Tribute to Intellivision
Similar to the Atari one, but I was more of an Intellivision guy. Unfortunately, market share was much smaller so this may go nowhere.

Re: Tribute to Intellivision
Awesome... we had the Atari growing up, but my Mom's aunt had the Intellivision, and my brother and I would spend weekends there playing forever. Night Stalker and Burgertime ROCKED. Baseball was sweet too, even though you couldn't catch fly balls...
I remember loving AD&D and Auto Racing, but can't remember where I used to play them. To date myself, I remember playing Tron Deadly Discs and Utopia at my buddy's place in 5th grade, listening to "We Built this City on Rock and Roll" |
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
oh man i didnt have like 3-4 of those games and they look sweet!
i challenge anyone to baseball, tron, burgertime, bumb n jump or nightstalker. |
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
i used to be friends with this guy just so i could play utopia on his intellivision. for years.

In the course of doing research for my OP, I found out you can apparently d/l the games for free! Also I guess X-Box released about 60 titles on one disc some time recently. Also, you clearly only talk trash because you know it's geographically unlikely I'll ever get the chance to own you at baseball. |

[/ QUOTE ] Key to baseball intellivision of course was to immediatly hit ur shorstop once the pitch was thrown, then chase down the balls hit to right field. My favs are sea battle and skiing |
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
For some reason, my parents never bought an Atari or an Intellivision. Only an Odyssey 2. But a friend of mine did have an Intellivision and I loved it. Baseball was my fave.

[/ QUOTE ] td, This may sound ghey to this forum, but most games we had a "mutual non-agression" pact where we would just try to build our island better than the other guy. I.e. we wouldn't give each other rebels. To me, rebels are bad juju. If they happened on their own that was one thing, but it sucked to have a piece of premium property get replaced by a rebel. |

Re: Tribute to Intellivision
Good thread tuq, talk about a blast from the past. I too grew up with one of these wonderful machines. Some great titles mentioned in the OP. I used to love Bugertime, Tron and Bump N Jump.
Some other games that rocked: Atlantis - link Dragonfire - link Pitfall - link Snafu - link Triple Action - link There was another one I loved that I think was called Pandemonium, but at a quick glance I can't see it mentioned anywhere. Good times! |
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
i have to hold the world record for astrosmash on intellivision.

Re: Tribute to Intellivision

Awesome post and links! Of the ones you listed, only Snafu and Triple Action do I recall. Well, I recall Pitfall, but I thought the Intellivision version was only marginally better than the Atari one (which was rare), so left it off. Looking at your link for Triple Action, it's funny how much time they spent focusing on the biplane piece. But it's true, that was easily the best of the three. Nice pickup. I can't find Pandemonium on the site I used, so not sure you're right about the title. riverdance, I guess astrosmash was one of the most popular Intellivision titles, but I never really got into it for whatever reason, so left it off. |
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
This thread is the chit. I used to creep downstairs late at nite and watch my parents play nightstalker. I remember when my dad got to the invisible robot. I spent next couple of days trying to get to that level. Coolest audio tracks of any game. Only draw back to this system was the keypads would wear out and the disks too after a while.
|
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
tuq,
us too! rebels were a no-no. pt boats were fair game though. |
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
I was an Atari kid myself...but had a couple of friends who had intellivision.
We played the football and the tron game quite a bit. I wanted to play the baseball more but they weren't into that. I had no idea that activision also made Pitfall for intellivision. That game on Atari was awesome. And I'm now reminded of other great activision games on Atari like Kaboom and Freeway, but this isn't an activision thread. I remember Intellivision had all those TV commercials with George Plimpton bragging about the life-likeness of the graphics on the baseball and the other games. |
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
Also - I saw a cheapo plug-n-play (on your TV) for intellivision games at a Walgreens for $8 or something.
Think it included 10 games or so. Came very close to making an impulse-buy. |
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
The best game ever written for a computer: M.U.L.E. I played it on my C-64 and still fire it up once in a while on my PC.
|
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
Rich - while I don't disagree with your choice, it's totally out of line in the context of this thread.
Microbob - thanks. I may not be remembering the Pitfall difference well enough, but how complicated could it have been? You've got ponds, ropes, snakes, ladders, walls, etc. IIRC better graphics on Intellivision, but what's a playa gonna do? Ponds are ponds. In the video game world, apparently snakes hate without prejudice. Also, I totally recall the Plimpton commercials. Great memory. td, I like your style. PT boats were totally within the rules. You just don't eff with a brotha's land. gwhiz - you don't know how bad that no-faced robot scared me as a kid. WHY CAN'T HE HAVE A FACE!!! Dammit. Also, the game made me feel like I should lock all the doors and windows to avoid being attacked by a robot or giant spider. |
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
Sadly I had never heard of Intellivision before reading about it a few days ago.
|
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
My Dad had one of these when I was very young. Legend has it that I learned to read for the sole purpose of being able to figure out Intellivision instruction manuals.
You didn't mention one of the most crappily unique games of all time, the classic rock career simulator, It's Only Rock 'n' Roll. |

There was enough shiet to deal with as it was(pirates, lightning, etc). I don't think I've ever played a game I enjoyed as much as this one in a long time. DN |

There was a crazy ass mothership at the end that took up like 1/3 of the screen. Scary stuff. It's funny how my memory of these games has been warped over time, I haven't seen screenshots of this stuff in ages and had forgotten just how primitive the graphics were. No eye-candy here people, just solid gaming goodness . |
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
Intellivision was excellent.
Atari 5200 < Atari 2600 < ColecoVision < Intellivision < NES < Genesis |
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
That dealer had a lot of tells.
Also: 9-6-2-7 |
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
My parents only bought my brother and I one game system during our entire childhood, and this was it. I used to have to beg, borrow and steal to use other kid's 'real' systems. But that doesn't mean I wasn't a whiz at Burgertime and 'Advanced' Dungeons and Dragons.

Re: Tribute to Intellivision
Great link! I loved Night Stalker and Burger Time but my all-time favorite Intellivision game was Beamrider...
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...5/671d4bbf.gif |
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
Bump 'N Jump = awesome.
Night Stalker = sweet game. Burgertime = classic. I need to break it out when I get home. Poker & Blackjack = I guess I have this to blame for being here. The fact that I knew basic blackjack strategy before going to kindergarten is thanks to this game. |
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
Uston - yessssssssssss, Beamrider ruled, not sure how I missed that one. Probably one of my top three.
octopi - due to the crash and subsequent drama, I don't think Intellivision was selling many new consoles after ~1985. Besides, I think NES came out about that time. Pretty unusual of your parents to stick you with something largely out of circulation. DN - now that I think about it we probably didn't do PT boats either. It seemed kind of pointless, chasing the fishing boat around when you could be doing something productive, like fishing or planting crops just ahead of a cloud. Also, you forgot about the hurricanes! Those were badass, particularly when they slowly ripped through the opponent's infrastructure, then doubled back and took out a bunch more. |

They had their old console, which my brother and I played up until 1992. After that, we started moving and lost the thing. I had to leech off my friends at that point. DAMN MY PARENTSSSS! |
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
I never had an intellivision. Had the 2600 and Colecovision, but I remember the video game crash fondly. All the 2600 games I could ever want for less than 5 bucks a piece. Those were the days.

Bandits, twelve o'clock!
|
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
Utopia was, by far, the best game.
They have a plug-and-play Intellivision game in stores these days. Something like 40 games...but I refuse to buy it because it doesn't have Utopia. |
Re: Tribute to Intellivision
Sorry to keep bumping my own thread but...
[ QUOTE ] Bandits, twelve o'clock! [/ QUOTE ] WATCH OUT FOR FLAK! Good to see someone else knows that game. Ocotopi, your youth sounds pretty unfortunate. Hopefully your parents at least allowed you to eat flesh. |

I still have intellivision. Gamecube released the games but it was awful.

Re: Tribute to Intellivision
I had almost every game mentioned here back in the early/mid 80's. I had that attachment that gave certain game actual voice, but it was very bad. I never understood b17 bomber and that map. Super pro football was by far the best football game ever made.
I can also remember a game called sewer sam, possibly the cheesiest game of all time. |
