Hey guys,
I could really use some help. Almost 3k hands of huhu and I am 5bb/100 loser (of course running at wtsd/w$sd = 44/39 doesn't help). Here is my most recent session. I omitted all the uninteresting fold-the-flop hands. He got the best of me in those pots by a little and by hand 10 its already pretty clear that I can't beat this guy with the rake. I suck still so this happens fairly often, but generally I play out a 20 bb match regardless anyhow, just for fun. There are no results in order to prevent inevitable posting bias, but what I will say is that the hands he showed down indicate that he is not a 5bb winner or -5bb loser against an average 5/10 hu player.

Don`t say something like that! Some days ago there was a post about NL(!) HU with consisted of an about equal number of hands. There was more than just one poster who actually worked through all of those hands.

hand 9: turn call is v suprising to me.
hand 10: river 3bet is a high variance and I question the value
hand 11: i fold the turn
hand 12: i would probably still bet the river. thiiin. but there is a disconnect between your flop cap/turn bet/river check.
hand 14: tilt much? that looks awful
hand 16: this is the sort of hand that is impossible to judge w/o prev results
hand 17: I would raise the river
hand 18: not a big fan of building a huge pot oop when we're playing sd poker
hand 21: i really hate these A-high check raises oop on drawy boards. this is the second time you've done it.
hand 22: not in love with turn 3bet. you don't beat much here.
hand 23: srsly what are you hoping will happen with that turn raise?
hand 24: another hand that can't be judged w/o seeing prev results (i mean your rvr bet)
hand 27: i dont think your hand is good >50% when 3bbs go in. i'd just call down.

hey vma,
when I started posting sessions like this people recommended that I include results so that they can develop the same reads that I did.
checking out some of my session posts may be helpful, I got a lot of great feedback.

hand 2: I will usually raise the flop here, but your play is fine too. were you going to raise a brick turn?

hand 5: I peel the turn a lot thinking that my pairs outs are good sometimes. I think this spot depends on the kind of hands he has been showing aggression with (can he have 2x/3x/worse?)

hand 7: I don't think there is much value in a river bet unless he has been calling you down ridiculously light. I would c/c to induce a bluff from busted straight and flush draws

hand 9: fold to the turn c/r. the turn didn't bring any draws, I doubt he is getting that far out of line.

hand 10: I would c/r the flop. peeling that kind of flop can freeze someone up if they are unpaired on the turn. also there will be lots of broadway turn cards that may freeze you up

hand 11: I would fold to the turn raise unless he has been getting way out of line (seeing previous results would help here)

hand 12: I call the flop 3bet to raise the turn. as played bet the river for value

hand 13: I c/r the flop here sometimes and play it like you sometimes. vs some guys you should c/f the river but I pretty much never do

hand 14: I don't get the flop c/r. I think this hand does better as a bluff catcher. fold the turn as played

hand 16: I don't think the turn is bad, he is likely firing again with 100%. you can prob fold river though

hand 21: another A high c/r that I don't like. better as a bluff catcher imo.

hand 22: turn 3bet is too much imo. I doubt you have close to 66% equity here.

hand 23: I don't think a better hand ever folds to your turn semibluff

hand 29: you know what I'm going to say. these are the kind of boards I will be c/c with a lot of non-showdownable hands so I like to balance with A high.

hand 30: c/r flop is probably better than c/c.

i didn't really notice this upon first review.. when I'm playing I often c/r flop lead turn, probably more than anything else but c/f. however it's not too far ahead of:

c/c flop
- c/f turn
- c/r turn
- c/c turn

these kinds of boards are generally pretty good for those lines ime. esp when you are both showing down a lot, it's good to keep him guessing on when to cont bet the turn.

going over your hands again it is very rare for your opponent to have initiative on the turn in position. only the lrr hand and a couple hands with very weak peels. imho initiative is not that great of a thing when you are oop in a hu match.

this is something i think many good players have figured out, but I still am clueless. Can you give me some examples? Some things I've tried but feel totally lost:

-Weaker gutshots, c/c flop and c/f turn
-K/Q-hi gutshots c/c flop and turn and some rivers
-Bottom pair/weak kicker c/c the whole way
-Top pair, wait-til-the-turn to c/r

Examples I'm missing? How drawy should the board be (say on a scale of 1-5 where 1 is A72r and 5 is t98 ds)?

thinking about it more c/c c/c c/c is good because people tend to barrel off with whatever junk after l/rr pre and you lose less if he has a good hand.

Going to reply blind here. It's a bit hard to analyze without results because often I base my decisions on what opponent has shown down so far.

Hand #9 -- I'd usually bet/fold this turn unless I thought my opponent was a massive bluffer.

Hand #10 -- River 3-bet is real bad.

Hand #11 -- Ugly turn spot, but again I think this is a fold against someone who isn't overaggro.

Hand #12 -- I might just call the flop 3-bet and assess the turn card and either raise again or call down. But capping flop is okay. Don't bet the turn if you're planning to check behind the river.

Hand #13 -- Read dependent, you have to be willing to fold this river if your opponent is predictable. So far, jury's still out so I don't hate a calldown.

Hand #14 -- Spew. Flop 3-bet is pretty questionable. With backdoor diamonds, you probably have a thin peel. As played, fold the turn.

Hand #16 -- I think continually making these type of calldowns is going to be -EV against any decent player.

Hand #17 -- Looks good, don't see any reason yet to think we have a strong enough hand to put in more action.

Hand #21 -- Major spew. Just because you can find one draw that villain could have doesn't mean you have to force your way to showdown. When I see an opponent play a hand like this, I get ready for a long match planning to break my opponent by value betting him to death.

Hand #22 -- Looks like a spew, lol if you are good here. You do realize that was the worst possible turn card for you, right?

Hand #23 -- Don't get what the turn raise accomplishes.

Hand #26 -- Flop peel seems a bit loose, but I tend to err on the tight side of flop peeling.

Hand #27 -- You have to be careful trying to squeeze value there. I prefer either a flop raise or a straight calldown. You're not much of a favorite over villain's calling range on the river, unless he's showing down A3 or KQ here (probably not unless he's quite bad).

Hand #29 -- Flop raise doesn't accomplish much, if you're ahead let him barrel off. River call is bad as played of course.

Hand #30 -- Flop and turn real bad, river is expert.

Hand #33 -- More spew.

Overall, you really need to think in terms of odds when you make calldowns (as well as balancing your play instead of being a predictable showdown monkey). Just because there is some draw that could be playing aggressively doesn't mean you should always be investing 2.5 BB to catch him when the board blanks.

Most players are pretty predictable. They value bet their hands and make bluffs in a few places which become predictable over time. You seem to play with a giant sign on your forehead flashing "I will NOT be bluffed" and even some mediocre players can beat such a player.

Lol, just looked at the results now. Your opponent is a showdown monkey too. Just wait to make hands and value bet him to death. These guys are soooooo easy to beat if you are patient. Your spews are really bad because they are large errors. Against this guy, you can afford small errors (either folding when you have a thin call or making a call when you had a thin fold) but you just can't spew into him. He overplays his hands, but doesn't get way out of line with them.

you are friggin animal! What is your pfr stat? Mine is 53. Thought that was normal. I didn't think this guy was opening an abnormally high amount. Sorry if it wasnt clear, but I omitted all hands that were folded pf or on the flop.

vpip= 80/54 sb/bb

I think the BB stats are much more a function of who you're playing against

vs loose passives my BB vpip/pfr is going to be low because I get a lot of free looks and free cards with my weak holdings

vs LAGs both are going to be higher (pfr around 25-30%)

vma, it did occur to me later at night that your opponent was either playing tight and folding pf, or you were folding to a ton of SB raises. Unfortunately, when I have all of my epiphames (tried getting it right 3 times) during hyperpompic sleep. So, yeah, I figured out that you were only showing us half of the hands. So take that for what it is worth.

I would like to lead out with the following: That once you start folding, you open a hole in your game, that your opponent is stealing your blinds. By attempting to trap, you are losing value.

Thank you yourface for exposing problems. It is a huge problem that I don't always pay attention to math. This is why I post.

As for my Limit stats....

80/80 out of sb
60/50 out of BB.

wow. if you don't mind, how much do you lose per 100 from BB? I'd post mine, but I lose 5 bb/100 overall over a tiny sample so its pretty meaningless.

yeah i figured out the half the hands thing when I realized that a bunch of times you were sb two or three hands in a row or whatever.

btw my pf stats are
88/88 sb
52/17 bb

I think these are skewed by the fact that there a TON of dudes that I play that don't raise out of the sb a whole lot. and guys that fold too much from the bb so I open pretty close to 100% until they wise up. against better players I usually quit them after not long (so they don't skew the numbers a lot) but it's probably closer to 75/75 from the sb and who knows from the big.
