Hollywood Hair Hall Of Fame
The Hollywood Hair Hall of Fame is an attempt to pay homage to those actors who have not only brought joy to our lives with their acting, but have graced us with the presence of their tremendous hair. This thread will count down my top ten "great hair" list.

#10 - Val Kilmer
Effective in both serious and comedic roles, Val Kilmer's hair is similarly versatile in whatever role he plays. He clocks in at #10 on my Hollywood Hair Hall Of Fame.
Val Kilmer in "Top Secret" http://www.anni80.info/movies/images/rivers.jpg In his first starring role, Val sported a cool 50's era flip, kind of a quasi-homage to Elvis Presley and the California surfing scene. Val Kilmer in "Real Genius" http://www.holycowboy.com/Archive-bl...al-kilmer1.jpg Val's hair is similar to "Top Secret", but a bit less stylized. While it looks cool, nothing could prepare us for what was coming. Val Kilmer in "Top Gun" http://www.legends-online.com/acatalog/val-kilmer.jpg As the "Iceman", Val created perhaps the greatest single hair style in modern film history. Awesome. I've been told that just looking at Val in "Top Gun" has been known to cause women to spontaneously cream their pants. Val Kilmer in "Willow" http://www.planetkilmer.com/valbum/w.../willow_16.jpg As Madmardigan, Val goes brunette for the first time, and sports some greasy extensions. An interesting contrast from Tom Kazanski, to be sure. Val Kilmer in "The Doors" http://stat.correioweb.com.br/arquiv...lmer_doors.jpg Playing Jim Morrison, Val adopts Jim's shaggy do and convincingly pulls it off. He almost looks like a Morrison doppelganger. Well done. Val Kilmer in "Batman Forever" http://www.americanphoto.co.jp/pages...lans-51600.jpg In his one and done Batman appearance, Val sports a neatly trimmed, more "full head of hair" look for Bruce Wayne; quite a departure from the previous Batman (Michael Keaton, who decidedly does not make this list). Not a career highlight. Val Kilmer in "Heat" http://alpacino_fan.tripod.com/siteb...er_in_heat.jpg Val goes back to his famous blonde locks in this Michael Mann thriller. Pulled back into a ponytail, I almost couldn't tell who was who in his scenes with Ashley Judd. Interesting look visually, and differentiates his character from Pacino and DeNiro. The authentic wispy mustache is a fantastic accentuating touch. Forget about the huge penis and the cocaine; it is clear why chicks wanted to bang this guy. Before I continue, let me clarify that the list is composed entirely of male film actors. I am not Blackwell, or gay, so there are no chicks here. Also, wigs did not make this list. In doing this original list, I got to thinking, and decided that there will be "Hollywood Hair Hall of Fame: TV Edition" and "Toupee Edition" threads in the future. William Shatner "may" appear on one of these lists.

Vibesman - What's up with Danson's hair? He went from having this great coif during Cheers, to looking like it was thinning, to it being really grey and stubbly. Toup or plugs? Also it looks like all the color has drained from his face.

[/ QUOTE ] Ted combed and worked with his hair for the first few years of Cheers to make it look like Sam Malone's, but it was already thinning when he started the show, and after a few seasons he just started wearing a wig. In one of the later episodes (post-Shelley Long) there's actually a scene where Sam admits to Carla that he wears a wig and takes the thing off, revealing his bald dome. (Carla had slept with someone from the bar while drunk the previous night, and was feeling embarrassed and guilty, and Sam was trying to cheer her up.) I actually just found out fairly recently that Danson wore a wig for most of the show's run, and was surprised. The Vibesgirl thought I should have known. |

#9 - Kevin Bacon
With 58 feature films to his credit, its been said that any actor in the world can be connected to Kevin Bacon in six movies or less. While that isn't true, it IS true that a whole hell of a lot of people have been in close proximity with his tremendous hair.
Kevin Bacon in "Animal House" http://www.shadows.wall.net/features/sw-bacon3.jpg In his first film role, Bacon rocks the 60's prep boy look as frat boy Chip Diller. Kevin Bacon in "Friday The 13th" http://i.ivillage.com/E/rd/arrowfridaythe13th.jpg A cult classic. Bacon sports a typical early 80's style do before taking an arrow spear through the throat. He may be a little bloody, but the hair still looks great. Kevin Bacon in "Footloose" http://www.grandstandsports.com/images/8571.jpg Truly a classic. Bacon has a spiky growed out flat-top, almost yearning to be a mullet, thing going on. Standing straight on end, this hair looks great while playing tractor chicken or doing gymnastics in an abandoned barn. He got Lori Singer to spread her legs with this hair, so you know it is effective. Kevin Bacon in "Quicksilver" http://www.moviesunlimited.com/boxco...ide/D36753.jpg Bacon wears essentially the same style in a series of 80's movies, such as "Quicksilver", "He Said, She Said", and "The Big Picture". This is safe, yuppified Kevin. Pretty typical for the late 80's. Kevin Bacon in "A Few Good Men" http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Set/5142/kevin4.jpg Bacon breaks out the flat top as a military lawyer. This movie features a number of fantastic flat tops, with J.T. Walsh also deserving prominent mention. As far as hair is concerned, the flat top really separates the men with great hair from the boys, and you will see this style on a number of top 10 list members. Despite being in his 40's, Bacon can still pull off the long hair thing. #8 - Montgomery Clift
Tracking in at #8, Montgomery Clift pretty much wore the same hairstyle for the entirety of his tragically short career. But the "perfect profile" left an indelible mark on popular culture, and

you are correct in that michael douglas has fantastic hair and he even rocks the salt n' pepper look better than just about any. the only reason i would think that he would be #3 or #4 is that he hasn't been as versatile with his looks as depp and especially brad pitt though i bet douglas looks pimp no matter what. if you remember, there was a time when whatever hair brad pitt had women were then craving as the new "it" hair-do in hollywood, kind of like tom cruise for awhile as well, though nuts as he is will probably rank pretty high on this list eh? but yeah, douglas is sweet! |

#7 - Charlie Sheen
Son of a hair legend in his own right (Martin Sheen), Charlie Sheen burst on the scene in the mid 80's and made dudes everywhere jealous of his awesome head of hair. Charlie Sheen ranks #7 on my list of great Hollywood hair.
Charlie Sheen in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" http://www.80s.com/saveferris/images/cast/sheen.jpg Charlie stole the film as the street tough in the police station, and made Jennifer Grey feel so physically inferior with his spiky do that she eventually got plastic surgery and completely changed her appearance. Charlie Sheen in "Major League" http://www.spitemag.com/bile/lineup/art/vaughn.jpg I wish I could find a better picture, but Sheen sported some great clipper artwork on the back of his head in this one. Combined with the black horned rim glasses, he was completely bad ass as Ricky Vaughn. Charlie Sheen in "Platoon" http://ak1.aka.eonline.com/7/1480/12...ts.platoon.jpg I like to call this "The Mushroom". The Filipino humidity frizzes the do out, making it flow out of the bandana like a mushroom cap. Fantastic. Charlie Sheen in "Wall Street" http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2005/...allstreet2.jpg Charlie sports the mid-80's slicked stockbroker look. Unfortunately, this effort was completely overwhelmed by a top 5 all-time hairdo, Michael Douglas' Gordon Gekko. Still, serves as a great contrast between the prior film and this next example. Charlie Sheen in "Men At Work" http://img.clubic.com/photo/00037045.jpg The picture doesn't do it justice, but Charlie has a super mullet in this one. Really exemplary. This is a pretty decent dumb flick, btw, with a great (as always) Keith David. Charlie Sheen in "Hot Shots Part Deux" http://www.moviehole.net/img/hotshotspartdeux.jpg Sheen riffs on Stallone's Rambo with this extra-long do. I could not find 100% conclusive evidence, but I'm pretty sure that this is extensions or a wig. But since I am not entirely sure, I included it on the list. Sam - Charlie Sheen is not a bad call, but I'm not sure how you justify putting him 3 spots ahead of Kilmer. These 2 are very close IMO.

Often overlooked by critics when "America's Best Actors" conversations come up, Kurt Russell is never ignored by his fans, who appreciate this man's talent, and perhaps more importantly, his flowing locks.
Kurt Russell in "It Happened At The World's Fair" http://www.pleonasm.com/photos/misc/lis5.jpg Kurt got his start in this Elvis flick, and while he didn't have much of a role, he impressed Walt Disney enough to merit a ten year contract. Unfortunately for Walt, a grown-up Kurt would get so much poontang that Disney would eventually have himself cryogenically frozen until a time when Kurt Russell was no longer alive, so that he could have sexual relations with women himself. Kurt Russell in "Escape From New York" http://www.cool-movie-trivia.com/images/Snake1.jpg Kurt played the ultimate bad-ass, Snake Plissken. Because of Kurt's appearance in this, a whole generation of kids grow up wanting to wear eye patches and make Lee Van Cleef their bitch. This look was so successful for Kurt, he would spend the next 20 years cultivating it until John Carpenter goes crazy and makes "Escape From LA". Kurt Russell in "Tango and Cash" http://images.art.com/images/product...0/10101817.jpg Kurt began varying his roles a bit in the 80's, but one constant string ran through all of his films: the mullet. Kurt carefully cultivated the mullet, and made it his own. Kurt Russell is the patron saint of the mullet. Truly a classic. Kurt Russell in "Tequila Sunrise" http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/A...8230/Mel76.JPG Kurt shakes things up a bit, and goes for the Pat Riley slicked back do. He totally makes it work, and gets Michelle Pfeiffer to cook dinner for him and spread her legs. And this was in the 80's, when Michelle Pfeiffer was arguably the most attractive woman on the planet. Kurt is so cool in this flick, I think I would do him, too. Kurt Russell in "Soldier" http://i.timeinc.net/ew/img/review/981030/soldier.jpg Kurt rocks the flat top like few before him, in films like "Backdraft" and "Soldier". He has the right amount of spike in the front, and has a great hairline. Its a pretty perfect rendition. When "Soldier" is released, young boys everywhere become extremely jealous of Kurt's awesome flat top, and in despair, grow up to have emo Franz Ferdinand shag dos and like boys. Jealous that Kurt Russell looks better as him than he does, Brooks crashes his car while drunk and dies.
