$20 Trick at the Wynn

Has anyone had any success with the $20 Trick at the Wynn? I will be there for a conference in December, staying on a conference rate of $199/night. For what its worth, I will be there for 4 nights, checking in on a Saturday.

Four nights of upgrade at the Wynn is well worth the “fifty trick”.

Fatwallet have a thread for this kind of thing, there they report a very good success rate of the $20 trick working, albeit on a very small sample size (3 or 4 off of the top of my head).

Being December I would think your chances are as good if not better than any other time of the year. NFR are not your typical Wynn customer, so I imagine they will be quiet.

Thanks for the information so far...especially the link.

I had forgotten, but you are right, this conference that I attend in Vegas always does overlap with the Rodeo. Hope the poker tables are filled with some loose cowboys while I am there!

...at the Wynn, the $20 trick is known as the "$100 trick."

Would booking through the poker room have any effect on the $20?

Anyone have experience.

This is a reason that I asked whether anyone here has had any success with the $20 Trick at the Wynn. According to the site linked above, the trick was very successful at the Wynn for only $20. However, it seemed to just get a higher floor with a better view. Maybe it takes more to get a really bigger room. However, the regular room at the Wynn may be the nicest non-suite hotel room in which I have ever stayed.

A $20 tip is a thing of the past in Vegas.. Inflation combined with competition from ballas has made a standard "hook you up fat" tip $100.

Re: $20 Trick at the Wynn

I used it 2 weeks ago ($50) and asked for a corner room with the floor to ceiling windows on 2 sides. It worked and has in the past also. Definitely worth the try and will work as long as they are not heavily booked. I usually go Tuesday or Wednesday through Saturday, so it is a tad lighter.

Looking through a bunch of the threads at FDT, it seems that it doesn't really matter so much how the room was booked (Priceline, poker, complete comp, online, package). If there is a room available, your chances are somewhere between 25-80%. Sure, you'll get the occasional host that will say "we can't do that for X instance" but...

I don't see how you could not just try it and just get over any potential rejection "pain."

FWIW, I tried this last month. Unfortunately, I got a fairly new kid (it seemed), and after saying he had upgrades, we ended up in a regular room (and he still had my cash). Oh well.

I am going to try the $50 trick at Venetian in about 7 hours..which according to that website is also the optimal time..(post 10pm)..let's see if I run as hot as I have all month!

This is incorrect. One of my friends tipped only $20 at Caesars and got this room for 5 nights back in August:

That's an $800+/night room for $150/night, for only a $20 tip at check-in.

Though you may have better luck with more at the Wynn...

I got my parents a room at the Wynn. When I checked in, I gave the lady a $100 tip and I got upgraded to a Tower Suite, it was sick. I would recommend $100 tip at Wynn.

Re: $20 Trick at the Wynn

I'd reccomend giving them more money, like $100 if you're there for four nights.

And to the poster who said something about the tower suites- i'm assuming you had a regular room in the tower suites, which, is the same thing as a resort room anywhere else in the hotel, except the color cheme is more likeable and you get a toothbrush and newspaper.

pig4bill 11-04-2007 08:16 PM

Re: $20 Trick at the Wynn

The $100 tip is probably less than the toothbrush and newspaper would cost in the gift shop.

$20 tip at MGM yesterday got me upper floor with awesome view...checked in 11am and room was ready. Not much but not bad. Was hoping for a skyloft c/w butler & porshe...maybe I'll try $100 next time.

Re: $20 Trick at the Wynn

Tried this at Mandalay last August. The clerk was VERY interested and clearly worked to improve my room situation. Sadly, there were two conventions (including the Gentlemen's Club Owners Conference) going at the time, and no rooms. In the end, there was no upgrade available, and the $20 was not given. I did have this work once before, at Mandalay. It is hit or miss, and depends on many factors.

If they fail to upgrade you, it's standard to not accept the tip. Anyone who did is either brand new or shifty.

I booked through the poker room last March and upon arrival used the $20 tip trick to upgrade to a slightly larger room on a very high floor. How much the $20 tip helps will depend on the time of year and day of week.

Absolutely correct. They can't upgrade you if rooms are not available. During slow periods, the $20 trick often works like a charm.

I was planning on going the day after Xma(or possibly that night, the 26th) and leaving the 29th or 30th, before New Years. I assume this isn't really an ideal time?

No, it would be the ideal time for you when you checkin. Up until that Saturday night, the city will be fairly quiet relatively speaking.

She was fully aware of this fact, and conveyed to me that she did not expect the tip since she could not upgrade me. She also conveyed, as best she could, how much she really wanted to get the upgrade (and hence, the $20).

ship the poker rate. 359/night after taxes for the 30th and the 31st.

i think i'm just going to stick with my room and not mess with a $ trick, seems not worth it.
