Re: August Cheese(LC)

I'll start with hopefully a good one. This is true BTW.

Some of you may or may not know that I am a professional musician. A few 2+2ers know this. My older brother is also. He plays all of the various saxophones and writes music for films and TV etc. We both have done music as a profession our entire lives(It is in the family several generations back). Anyways, I have totally neglected to tell anyone here but my brother did a lot of the saxophone recording for the movie Rounders. There are several short sax solos here and there and that is my brother playing. He is listed in the ending credits I believe. Pretty cool eh! I'm proud what can I say. It is poker related so it fits in this forum. That is all.

Sincerely, Frond the Average

i envy the fact that you are a professional musician. it's pretty cool, and not just because you were able to drink from the Stanley cup.

what is your brother's name?

Frond as in Palm frond, the leafy part of a palm tree. The name is not for sale PokerJ! You may lease it if you have good credit though.

SS-You seem to run pretty well. GG

Started off with an immediate 100 BB downer Oh well, just ignore it, I guess. It's sad, though, because I was just out of one.

On a different note, my latest experiment looks promising: the data I collected testing myself exactly matched expectations. The next step is determining our hypothesis; three cheers for modern science!

We're basically testing the range where you can still see true 3D in virtual reality, i.e. how many centimeters in and out of the screen, and what influences this range both positively and negatively. (it wasn't poker related)

Re: August Cheese(LC)

That well with Deathdonkey sounds cool.

I was also hoping that we could get Bernie to one in the near future as well. That would be really great.

Hehe, typical. Sounds very familiar. Did you already hit the "I capped flop and 3 bet turn with my gutshot because I thought you had AK and could bluff you, then hit my gutshot on the river" line?

Live 4/8 at the local card room.

I've played with the villain in question many, many, many times before. He is very tight, but plays far too weak and misses value all the time. He also knows that I for the most part play a pretty straightforward TAG style in these crazy 4/8 games.

Villain is UTG+1 and raises, 2 callers, I 3-bet AKs in the SB, and the BB caps it! We call and everyone else folds. BB is a pretty horrible player who has a lot of chips in front of him. If he raises he generally has the goods.

Flop is T99. I check, BB bets, villain calls, I call.

Turn is an A. I check with the intention to raise, BB bets out, Villain raises now, I 3-bomb that [censored] as intended and BB folds.

Here’s where it gets interesting: Villain blurts out “are you freaking kidding me? AWWWW… he has Aces” and then folds his hand faceup. What’s his hand do you ask? TT. LOL! When I see this I say “woooow dude, that is crazy”. I then flip over my AKs and he goes on life tilt.

Funny story, but one question lingers: why exactly do you check-three-bet a single pair on a paired board?

I was waiting for someone to call me on that . It was kind of a heat of the moment thing where I was planning on c/r and didn't expect it to be raised getting back to me ... then I just raised anyways as I was originally planning.

FWIW I don't think the pairing of the board really affects the hand much, as the only 9 they have here is 99. But yeah the 3bet is probably bad, and if I just call BB probably does too. I likely win less when I'm ahead and lose more when behind with the line I took. Except, you know, those times when you somehow bet rocks off their flopped FH :P.

KK < JT
QQ < 98
QQ < 76
TT < 95
AQ < K3 on AQ75 board, hit his flush

And somehow only minus 274 playing 9-18...VICTORY!

Re: August Cheese(LC)

Why have most SoCal card rooms gotten rid of any limit in between 4/8 and 8/16? Not enough interest or? It would be nice to play a limit in the middle there instead of making the bigger leap. HG and Commerce I hear used to have 6/12

Oh that, and my latest theory: Even if you live on a small cul de sac and have great neighbors, there is still at least one loon living amongst you.

StrictlyStrategy 08-07-2007 01:40 PM

Re: August Cheese(LC)

8/16 is good. Anything less and you're probably going to get eaten up by Cali's sick rake.

Wish me well tonight. I decided not to get a room and will be sleeping in my car which has no air-conditioning.

Or back seats.

Re: August Cheese(LC)

Frond: You're gunna love the jump to 20/40. :/

Edit: Actually, not trying to scare you. You should make the jump whenever your bankroll gets to that point. Most of your posts have been pretty good or at least show that you are thinking about the game seriously. I would set aside the first free 3k you have and take a shot at Comm 20.

Edit2: Actually, PJ gets mad at me when I recommend people to play his game. Try the Comm 9/18, 15/30 instead.

Frond 08-07-2007 05:34 PM

Re: August Cheese(LC)

Thanks PBen.

I have had several people who I respect a lot tell me that it is time to move up but my roll might be a bit short for the 20 game or even to jump to the 9/18. I am going to keep at the 4/8 for a bit longer and take shots at the 8/16 HG and or the 9/18 Commerce game here and there. It's been about a year of live play now for me. 7-8 months of it more serious. I did take my first shot at 8/16 the other day and liked it. The play was really no better than any 4/8 game I've sat in on so far. In fact a few of the players were a bit worse than some 4/8 dudes I have played with. Can't wait to move up but I'm going to be patient. Been slowly building my roll and learning as much as I can from great players(2+2ers)and beleive it or not, learning from bad players as well. I also need more time in playing

i will admit there was 5 questions i could only see one of my two holecards or 2 of the 3 flop cards. i tried to surmise what the scenario probably was(i.e. we raise A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]x and the flop is rag [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]rag [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]rag [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img])

Re: August Cheese(LC)

I did this test ages ago, but I can't remember my score. I'll try again later. I do remember the first question used to be ambiguous: they only asked what the worst hand was, without mentioning anything else. Therefore, I chose 72o because playing it is worse than playing 32o. I did, however, know the equity of 72o was higher.
