Is Cardplayer magazine the complete tool of the industry?

Tried to read about the Absolute Poker super account controversy by searching “The voice of modern poker” Cardplayer magazine online-nothing-I did see Absolute was offering some cool promos however. How much does an add page in Cardplayer cost? I’ll bet $1000 even money that if we pooled together and bought an ad page to publicize the issue they would laugh at the idea.

you're not going to see any magazine or website that depends on poker revenue ever publish anything (outside a public forum) that paints poker in a bad light. it's like asking republicans to objectively critique the oil companies, HMO's and defense contractors.

It's not like CardPlayer exists as an important journalistic entity... it isn't the NY Times.

It exists to make money. Plain and simple.

All magazines are simply tools of the advertisers that use them.

It was the standard before the boom and because of that, has gotten a pass for a few years. It used to be distributed for free in the card rooms only. Since adding paying subscribers, I think they have to dumb it down to appease the market of the player who is subscribing instead of picking it up at the card room.

Yeah they really are a big tool. Not one single word on the Absolute Poker scandal, in fact I even saw more AB promos the week it stormed on this forum. Even a NYT editorial had a story on AB. Poker magazines only show when a player does something wrong not the Site if your lucky. Bluuf magazine is a tool also but it is a lot better to read I think.

Complete tool?

Yeah, Cardplayer is like a swedish army knife. Looks great but isn't good for much and ends up sitting in your desk drawer taking up space.

As swedes are not as aggressive IRL as in poker i think they use army knives to cut cake rather then killing people.

And the swiss army knives are used to file your enemies' nails, and perhaps open a bottle of wine for them...

Cardplayer is nothing more than an affiliate site. They serve no other purpose. Well, take that back. Now that they are into personnel management, they also whore out their stable of players.

so a company is supposed to abandon its business partner as soon as it's accused of something shady? yeah, sounds like a good way to do business.
