wireless routers
Recently I upgraded my internet service to get 15 Mbps down and 2 mbps up.
I don't really know what that means, but I want to get a router that will allow me to take advantage of these speeds. Right now I have a wireless b linksys router, which wouldn't be good enough, right? Any recommendations are appreciated. kthanxbye |
Re: wireless routers
Wireless B has a maximum rate of 11Mbps. If you're going to have a baller connection like that, you might as well go with a baller router.
Something like this. |

thanks, i'll check that out

Re: wireless routers
You'll probably need a new wireless adapter for your computer as well.

Re: wireless routers
Does the wireless N router have any advantages over a wireless g like this for someone like me who doesn't do any online gaming aside from poker and will just be using it to browse the web (although I do want to be able to download files as quickly as my connection will allow via my router)?
My laptop is the only computer that it will be used with. |
Re: wireless routers
Wireless N has a higher data rate and range. You probably won't see much of a difference in those two routers unless you're pushing the range or doing wireless LAN transfers.

Re: wireless routers
just get a wireless G. That will do you fine.

Re: wireless routers
One thing that I noticed was painfully slow with my wireless B router was transferring files from my desktop to my laptop.
I imagine the G will be much faster for this, but it says on newegg that N is up to 12 times faster than G. Does this mean that file transfers will go 12 times faster as well? Or is the difference negligible for someone who rarely does this anyway? |
Re: wireless routers
I don't know where they came up with the 12x. 5 times faster is more realistic if your hardware can support it.
Also, if you decide to go with the wireless G router, be sure to get the one you linked to (the WRT54GS) NOT the regular WRT54G. The "S" has more flash memory and can take advantage of speedbooster. |
Re: wireless routers
hi can anyone recommend me a wireless router that works real well? I have a DLink Airplus Xtreme G wireless router but my apartment are those real old apartments that is close to 100 years old... and i heard some routers get their connection blocked by the walls.
So basically i cannot go to my living room and use the internet much. Anyone can recommend me a specific wireless router? Thank you. |
