The first Colt Brennan interception was just a great play by a defensive lineman, but that one was just a terrible read. That ball needs to not be thrown. 'Course I'm rooting for Boise so I don't mind

osu lost has a better loss (ill vs sflo) and beat more decent teams. kinda baffled wvu is ranked higher really.

Normally I'd say that up five in the third quarter, it's stupid to go for two. Just kick the extra point and take the six point lead. When you've had two XPs blocked though I guess it's a more forgivable decision. Didn't work here though, 32-27 Hawaii now.

This is a fun game.

Boise starting to slow down pretty badly on O. If Brennan doesnt have any more brain lapses, this could start to run away from Boise.

edit: on cue, Brennan bombs a TD

Hawaii's passing attack is actually very well executed.

And there's Boise's mistake. They really need to take this ball the length of the field or else this could start to get away from them fast.

the whole problem is that the voters have WVU ahead right now and so long as WV takes care of business, which they should do, then the voters are going to keep it that way.

Re: College Football Week 13

Using Sagarin rankings, here are the two teams' schedules and results
WVU
rank team score
111 Western Michigan 62-24
127 Marshall away 48-23
54 Maryland away 31-14
79 East Carolina 48-7
13 South Florida away lost 21-13
108 Syracuse away 55-14
58 Mississippi State 38-13
39 Rutgers away 31-3
48 Louisville 38-31
14 Cincinnati away 28-23

Remaining games:
at 21 Connecticut
vs 68 Pitt

So their loss is at the Sagarin 13th ranked team, who btw are ranked 27th in the AP poll and 23rd in the BCS. Their best win is at Cincinnati, who are ranked 14th by Sagarin, 24th in both the AP and BCS.

Here is the same for Ohio State:
93 Youngstown State 38-6
115 Akron 20-2
44 Washington away 33-14
83 Northwestern 58-7
119 Minnesota away 30-7
55 Purdue away 23-7
131 Kent State 48-3
46 Michigan State 24-17
30 Penn State away 37-17
31 Wisconsin 38-17
20 Illinois loss 28-21
25 Michigan away 14-3

Their loss is at home to Sagarin #20 Illinois who are 18th in the AP and 17th in the BCS. I would say this loss is a touch worse than losing at USF, but it's pretty close either way.

I used Sagarin because it goes deeper than the top 30 or so. It's interesting that he seems to rank Big East teams ahead of the AP and BCS. I'm not really sure why that is.

Ignoring scores and just looking at wins, here are the rankings from worst to best.

WVU: 127, 111, 108, 79, 58, 54, 48, 39, 14
OSU: 131, 119, 115, 93, 83, 55, 46, 44, 31, 30, 25

Looking at that, I think that right now OSU clearly looks better. If WVU beat UConn then that'll tack on another win over a team about 30 (currently 21 but will fall obviously) and if you go by Sagarin it becomes a matter of whether you think it's more impressive to beat two teams in the low 20s or one team in the mid teens. I think the former is true.

However, since Sagarin seems to overrate the entire Big East, at least relative to what most people think, it would appear that Ohio State has a significantly better resume with similar losses and OSU having beaten 3 fairly good teams while WVU will have only beaten 2.

That was long and rambling, but hopefully made some sense.

huh, i never said they were 7-8 pts better or even that they were significantly omglolsuperduper better. ill is ranked 18. usf isnt in the top 25. seems better to me, but, as jaredl pointed out, usf is ranked higher by sagarin.

as for wvus remaining games pitt is fairly worthless. uconn is decent so it will come down to beating rutgers, cinci, uconn vs beating psu, wisc, mich.

after looking at sagarin it looks very close but going by the polls osu looks clearly superior.

7-8 points was a generous margin I assigned after actually looking where the games were played. I would realistically say more like 9.

Also beating Pitt is fairly similar to beating MSU.

NC: Kansas/Missouri winner v. WV
Rose: OSU v. Oregon
Sugar: SEC winner v. Hawaii
Orange: VT/BC v. Tenn/Georgia (not LSU)
Fiesta: Kansas/Missouri loser v. USC

The guy above me forgot that Oregon is leading the Pac 10 ATM. Hawaii winning tonight kills Illinois.

Other than driving by campus, I haven't been to UH. I have spent a lot of time in Hawai'i since my wife is from there (Windward O'ahu near the North Shore). I really like the relaxed feel. It doesn't feel like everyone is in a hurry like a lot of places (I'm guessing Kansas isn't one of them though ). It suits me just fine.

From what I know about UH, it's largely a commuter school. If you aren't from there that would be a pretty big drag. I guess most weekends there aren't a lot of students around since so many go home or still live there. For sports based only on my impression from being there and the 30 or so people I know, 99% of whom are some sort of in-laws, volleyball is significantly more important to people than football.

As for Bob's comments, the sun is a pain in the ass since you have to wear sunscreen all the time. Depending on where you are it is also regularly hotter than a lot of people like. For some this is fine, say people in Southern California. As a fellow Oregonian I can certainly see where you're coming from that even though the weather is often what many would consider perfect it isn't optimal. The tourists aren't so bad because they tend to all be in tourist spots. It would suck if you lived anywhere near Waikiki or had to go through there regularly. The rock fever thing I don't know too much about. My longest stint there was about a month and a half when I got married and I never felt claustrophobic or whatever. I think that's something that would really bother some people and others not at all though.

As for all those beaches I don't really get this criticism. If you went to UH you would live in Manoa or somewhere else in Honolulu which isn't New York but is a city. You can certainly go the beach if you want but it's not like you have no choice in the matter. It's like saying being at the U of O would suck because of all those mountains and buttes.

actually, i forgot that utenn leads the east (ugh). so yeah, UGA probably will get it if Utenn goes.

If that happens to LSU then that will be one of the biggest falls in two games ever. From #1 to out of the BCS in two two games. Michigan at the beginning went from #5 to pretty much guaranteed to have a bad season, which I guess is up there as well.

If LSU loses the SEC championship game there is no way they get a BCS bid.

Especially if it's Tennessee that beats them. UT would get a spot and UGA would get an at large bid (assuming they beat GA Tech tomorrow) and no conference can have more than 2 BCS bids.

Also, as they are playing right now, Georgia will roll LSU if they happen to play them in the title game, but in order for that to happen Kentucky would have to beat Tennessee tomorrow (very possible)
