No way. At 4000-8000 an adequate bankroll is more like $4 million. The biggest roll I've heard of is Phil Ivey's, and that was $8 million.

[/ QUOTE ]

There is no way Ivey's roll is "only" 8 million. More like 20-40 million.

[/ QUOTE ]

5000BBs? Sounds like a lot to me.

Admittedly I don't remember where I got $8 million from, so I could be wrong, but much more than that seems incredible.

Its not like hes walking by a 5000-10,000 game on his way to sit in the 4000-8000 one.

lol.. I don't think a $125k tourney was a sit-n-go

[/ QUOTE ]

it was a one table tournament. aka a sit and go.

[/ QUOTE ]

Number of tables has nothing to do with whether or not its a sit n go.

Bill Gates is known to play $3/$6 pr $4/$8 when in Vegas.

[/ QUOTE ]

I read that too somewhere. By my calculations in the 4/8 game: with a net worth of approximately $50 billion dollars, he has a bankroll of 6.25 billion BB. (Probably enough to cover himself for variance).

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh yes! How long would it take him to lose all of that assuming he never wins another hand ever?

[/ QUOTE ]

It wouldn't be possible. Bill gates is so rich that he could literally spend the rest of his life burning $20 bills every 5 minutes or so, and he'd make so much more than that on investment interest from his net worth that he'd still make money.

My senior year of HS I took part in the "work study" program which lets you go to school for 1/2 day and then get a job for the rest of the day. As part of it we had a class about it during our schoolday that dealt with taxes and other work related issues. Anyway, our teacher wrote an amount on the board(forget how much) and asked us how long it would take us to earn that working the same schedule we're working now. I forget exactly but I think it took me around 8 months or so to earn that much, and most people in the class were similar. Then he told us that Gates makes that every second...pretty sick.

To truly figure out what size bankrolls poker pros have you would have to...ah screw it...Andy Beal.

Another thread with no real point,
no one cares how many rich snobs have the
dough to play high stakes poker. I think
you'd have to be pretty shallow to think money = excitement

BBV/OOT is more suited for this, but I probably
expect too much from you guys. Repeating
a phrase over and over doesn't make it funny. Also,
lol at all the Andy Beal comments, he doesn't play poker.

I can't believe with 9 pages of posts that no1 has mentioned andy beal. He's both a billionaire AND a poker player.

Re: Billionaire Poker Players

Saying Andy Beal is not a poker player is just about the stupidest thing I ever heard. Of course he's a f--king poker player.

Re: Billionaire Poker Players

Theres no way in hell anyone has even come close to making a billion dollars from playing strictly poker.

I think the best poker players that play Live and Online have a bankroll of 5 million max (and that's being generous). People have shown stats where someone has won 5 million playing online in 6 months (I believe Patrick Antonious or however you spell it) had a streak where he won 5 million in pot-limit omaha. However, that doesn't mean he is always winning, I'm sure he's lost over a couple million too. I actually have seen him play HU and bought in for more than 400k a couple times (once against IDreamOfJenna and one time against durrr). Poker is a game of swings, and the very best players will win more than they lose. But that's not to say they don't lose. I think at the very top level of players who play a ton online, can manage to build up a bankroll of 5 million. But I doubt highly anyone has gone past that.
