Very very tough match for Porto. The fact that they couldn't put them away at home with a man advantage for 40 minutes doesn't give me alot of hope for this game. Porto are in good form though so anything can happen.

Ricardo Quaresma likes their chances web page

When I set my dvr to record the games last night I definitely had a few grumbles that the game theyre showing is Chelsea-Rosenborg. WHY????

Madrid-Bremen is the espn classic game and should be much better imo. I'm not even bothering recording the chelsea game.

Rosenborg-Chelsea is actually not a bad choice, as Rosenborg has been the biggest surprise of this CL so far, and it will be interresting to see if they are able to pull off another big upset. Its a David vs. Goliath story where its not a given that Goliath will win (but they will though).

Madrid-Bremen might be a better game in pure entertainment, but its #1 vs. #4 (and Madrid will win easily), while the RBK-Chelsea game is #2 vs. #1.

If anyone has a link or whatever where I can watch the Pool-Porto game, please PM me.

Also, I'm thinking about traveling to England/France next year, and one of my stops would definitely be Anfield for a match. Is there an English version of stubhub for tickets? Ebay? Just scalp em outside the stadium?

Alex makes it 3-0 from 35 out on a weird free kick.

i have 20£ at 22-1 on 6-0 chelsea after it went 2-0 minutes.

Also I was putting 10£ on Torres to score first on and as I pressed confirm bet my mate walks in and goes Torres scored. He'd come upstairs and obv Torres had scored before I pressed send. However it says I won the bet.

wtf? Will they take this away?

Actually, if Pool and Besiktas win (assume 1 goal each), it's:

Porto 8 +1
Pool 7 +7
Marseille 7 +1
Besiktas 6 -9

If that happens, Pool is through with a draw against Marseille due to goal differential.

If Liverpool only get a draw against Marseille and are even on points then Marseille go through because they have more points in matches played between those two teams since they won at Anfield.

Half Time, Liverpool will need to play a lot better in the 2nd half to win. The group looks like this at this point at half time:

Porto 9 pts
Marseille 7 pts
Besiktas 6 pts
Liverpool 5 pts

Um wow Liverpool could be last going into day 6 and have to rely on Besiktas not beating Porto and Liverpool will have to beat Marseille, interesting group

Man, this tie-breaker stuff is a little confusing. But I think we Liverpool supporters would rather have Besiktas get no more than one point today (although they are now up 2-1). If they draw or lose, then our win today means we can sneak in with a draw in France provided that Besiktas beat Porto. Right?

EDIT: Just saw that Besiktas triumphed in Istanbul. Never mind.

Disregard that 4-1 to Liverpool & Besiktas won 2-1

Porto 8 pts
Marseille 7 pts
Liverpool 7 pts
Besiktas 6 pts

Liverpool still need to win on the last day, away games aren't easy at all in Europe so anything can happen yet, don't often see a group with all teams being able to qualify on last day

Celtic won 2-1 in Last minute too weeeeeeeeeee

If Porto get at least a point and Liverpool and Marseille draw then Marseille go through because they have 4 points against Liverpool.

If Porto lose and Marseille and Liverpool draw then it's a 3-way tie for second between those three. Ignoring Besiktas, the table is:
Team W D L Pts
Liverpool 1-2-1 5
Porto 1-2-1 5
Marseille 1-2-1 5

So it goes to goal difference between those teams.
Liverpool have 5 goals for and 3 against
Porto have 5 for and 7 against
Marseille have 3 for and 2 against

So Liverpool would advance.

JaredL 11-28-2007 05:59 PM

Re: **** OFFICIAL Champions League 2007-08 Thread!*****

fink,

I'm not sure but I think it's so that it doesn't come down to who gets the most goals against the worst team. This group is actually pretty even, which makes Liverpool's huge win over Besiktas all the more crazy, but the group stage often has one team that is clearly the worst. It would be bad if a team advanced because they beat that team 12-0 instead of 8-0.

Of course it could eventually come to that, but it should be lower IMO.

The best part is that everyone controls their own destiny. It's not like all four teams are just "mathematically" alive to advance. Win and in for every one of them. It's great.

I'm pretty sure I mean Smyth. The Rae guy is solid too. I don't watch every international match or whatever, so I'm always excited to hear him. I can see how you could get sick of his 'schtick' or whatever, just like any announcer.
