I hate placing GOD or any religion in Poker, Politics, and knocking on my front door with it as well...

I think you figured it out. Everybody who gets to the final table got lucky, not just in 2007 but in every year since there were 100 or more players. That is just the nature of poker.

Luck never factored into it when it was <100 players? LOL

So most of these threads are useless.

I predict a future post: "Who is worse, Yang or (insert 2008 winner here)"

The answer will probably be the 2008 winner

Gold is a reprehensible human being.

I don't know why there's so much hate for Yang and how he played. Regardless of how you think he "should" have played, he obviously did exactly what needed to be done to win......because he won. Luck is ALWAYS a factor. It's a factor if Scotty Nguyen wins, or Phil Hellmuth, or any "good" player.

You guys may not agree with how he played, but you can't argue with the results.

To all the people who say he didn't play well...how many times have you won the Main Event exactly?

Also, how can anyone say that Yang is worse in any way than Gold? I'd put my money on Yang every time if they went Heads-up. Gold can't even read people at all. I'd say someone asking for God to help them is a better human being than the loser who tried to stiff his backers out of the money he owed them.

I see what you're doing there.

I, however, am not saying that Gold played poorly in 2006 or that he's a lousy player like everyone is saying about Yang. Gold didn't win the ME with his reads, he won because he was great that week at playing mind games and he really fooled his opponents.

From the Youtube televised episodes, it seemed like Jerry Yang played bad. I thought he overvalued his hands alot, had no consideration into what his opponents might be holding, was willing to stack off with any Top Pair, did not play the hand under profitable circumstances (An amateur mistake) opted to play his hand on AUTO-PILOT betting increment with no possibility of slowplaying? There was that hand where he hit Set 8 on an ace flop against Phillip Helm, could have weighed the risk, tried to act weak, and induce an ALL IN bluff from Helm. But no.

The poll is a bit wrong, the question should be more specific! Who is worse? Could mean anything. Worse person, worse player, worse for poker, anyway. For title of "the worst" I voted Yang on a 55:45 coin flip against Gold.

Both are big stack douche bags. But i'm actually surprised, since the other players couldn't exploit Yang's weakness. In a way, what he was doing was like that Super Systems strategy, where if he bets 7,000 with air, the opponent is really risking 20,000 - or in this case their entire stack
when they go over the top. Yang could have nothing or the nuts.

Now, if only him and his big stack were up against 8 other short stacked Alex Kravchenko's. That would be an exciting game.
