She does not know. And yes, that's where he got his IQ. Mine is under 130.

That is my big question and big objection.

If you go back and look at point point's original post, he said that he wants to bankroll his son. He does not say that his son wants to be bankrolled.

And not letting the child's mother know what is going on, is not too bright a move. Even if separated or divorced, both parents (unless one is an Adolf Hitler) need to be involved in their child's life and have input in major decisions.

The longer this thread goes, the more convinced I become that this is all point point's idea.

Personally I don't care if the kid's Mother doesn't know, I think if the kid is keen to give it a go then why not. Personally I think that $20 per week for a year would be better than $1000, and let the kid play low stakes cash or cheap sit'n'go tourneys or cheap MTT tourneys - whatever he wants to try. Maybe keep an eye on how much he plays and suggest he try to keep it under 10 hours a week. Watch how he goes and make helpful suggestions occasionally (like once a month), for the rest of the time leave him to it.

If he isn't that keen and would be happier spending his time with something else then bankroll yourself instead.

The mother was well intentioned enough to discourage the kid from getting involved in sparring for karate, and in ground fighting in judo. Guess what. The kid won 3 dozen titles in the former and was state and city champion for the latter for three consecutive years until he quit a few years ago due to time constraints in volunteer work and public service.

It was my idea. I offered it to him and he accepted. The reason I made this decision is because he has immense amounts of the top five poker pro attributes that Greenstein listed in his book. This assessment is based not just on personal opinion but also on feedback from teachers, parents' of friends, and relatives. I think it is worth it.

He is not sure if he will, in fact, play. But he will at least read TOP, Largay, Feeney's Emotions chapter, the link that Lego put on his post, HOH1 and 2, PNL, Gordon's Final Table DVD, and the Little Green Book CD. Perhaps, Greenstein's audio book as well. Whether or not he will accept the bankroll to actually play will depend on how much he will enjoy what he has read as well as on his schedule.

To keep this on topic to books, don't bother with Largay if he's not going to be playing live. Its a great book for small B&M games, but has little bearing on online poker.
