For comparison, as Jay had far better college stats and obviously had an NBA body. It took until Bias' Senior year (which Jay didn't even play) for him to get stats even in the same breath as Jay's Soph and Junior seasons.

But, let the hype continue.

MIN FG% 3P% FT% RPG APG TPG BPG SPG PPG
99-00 Duke 34.0 41.9 35.4 68.5 4.2 6.5 4.1 0.2 2.4 14.5
00-01 Duke 31.8 47.3 42.7 65.9 3.3 6.1 3.9 0.1 2.0 21.6

This guy wasn't a very talented QB. If anything, his coaches wasted his talent by putting him at QB.

The bottom is line is that Len Bias never played a game in the NBA, so this debate will never be settled. I think he would have been great (having bought into the hype and drama of the last 20 years), you think he would have just been good (refusing to buy into the statements of many coaches and players).

At least with Jay Williams, we got to see a year of NBA play and there was no doubt; as great as he was in college, he wasn't going to be a superstar in the NBA. Like I said, at best, the next Damon Stoudamire.

stop saying Shaq people

So it doesn't irk you that one of the greatest talents in basketball history has accomplished, at most, 70% of what was possible?

Google some old Shaq images from the Orlando days, and let me know if you do a double or triple-take when you see what he used to look like.

He's like the Barry Bonds of basketball - just with fried food and his belly instead of HGH and his head.

the moment people start naming arguably the most dominant NBA player of all time (arguably,as in it could be argued not that Im saying it) as the biggest waste of talent is the very moment this thread has jumped the shark and should be locked

His coaches did waste his talent, he threw it away too. But he was a talented QB, I think people understand how good he really could be.

General comment: I love how people know they can't call Shaq the greatest player of all time, so they created the term dominant, just to be able to argue about something.

I must not understand because I really don't see how good he could have been. Keep in mind, he's only getting slower and less quick as he ages.

And Jordan pushed to draft Kwame Brown. Your point?

[/ QUOTE ]

Poor example. Kwame was an absolute project. He's still a project. Bias competed and succeeded at the college level.

Since we're so high on Jay Williams, perhaps Coach K will sway your opinion:

Not remotely on par with Durant or Carmelo, tough to suggest this guy is some unreal tragedy who would've been an all-timer.

[/ QUOTE ]

Poor comparison. Very different levels of competition in 1986 and 2007, and especially 2003.
