Anytime a large company gets involved in an endeavor like this, it makes a statement. Their statement is that online poker is good, and we want in on it. That kind of move speaks silent words to the administration, and hopefully, loud verbal words from lobbyists for the industry.

Well, I don't disagree with what you are saying, but that wasn't my question. He said they are taking a major risk. I don't think they are. I think if a major corporation that is not in the business of gambling, such as google got involved in online gaming, that company would be taking a huge risk.

the whole United States Congress, with much publicity, has declared to be a bad practice. Bad enough to have a Federal law against it.

[/ QUOTE ]

There is no Federal law against online poker. The DOJ says there is, but they're full of [censored]. And even they know they're full of [censored], otherwise they would have prosecuted CardPlayer by now, since CardPlayer still runs .com ads.

Later, Greg Raymer (FossilMan)

which is why I don't get why we are looking to be regulated. Currently we pay no taxes and we aren't doing anything illegal. If it ain't broke.....

The two bills seem to do more on defining what is legal. I am happy with the current definition and I am not sure we should be looking to change it.

But I am open to changing my mind, I just really haven't heard a good explanation yet why I should.

They're older contributions. The one bolded above is from 2000, and he received $24,688 in 1998. These figures first surfaced in the Legislation forum here right after UIGEA.

It's too bad that someone didn't ask Ms. Catherine Hanaway about the DOJ's decision not to prosecute Card Player at the Judiciary Committee hearing last Wednesday. Next time I recommend Mr. Raymer as a witness.

If you are a winning player at the end of each calendar year, your profit should be reported, and subsequently taxed.

Lol. I was referring to fees (taxes) that will be imposed in a regulated environment. It is my contention that the house fees will go up dramatically compared to our current reality.

I agree with you, if you are an American citizen you should pay what you owe.
