My dad was awesome because of that one time when we killed that hobo together and didn't tell anyone.

My dad's pretty cool, definitely smart and funny. Apparently he dated Maria Schriver in college when she went to Georgetown. He's also worked for the Capitals for about 26 years and knows pretty much everyone in the league, now and back then. He got an invite from Rod Langway to his HOF induction, and always looked after Scott Stevens when he was a swingin' d ick 18 year old NHL hockey player without a clue. One particular story stood out however: my brother's favorite player back in the day was Al MacInnis so on his birthday he asked Al to give him a call at home, which he did, and it totally freaked my brother out. Really cool imo. Getting game jerseys and sticks from capital's greats like Al Iafrate and Don Beaupre was definitely nice too.

My brother decked Dale Hunter's kid when they were both around 7 or 8, the whole team, including Hunter, thought it was funnier than hell.

My brother-in-law briefly played for the Caps a few years ago, about half a season right before the strike. (To get back on topic, my dad is also one of his biggest fans, 'cause that's just how he is.)

My dad is awesome in many ways. But the coolest and most memorable story I ever heard was about my granddad. My g-mom always reminisces about him (he's been dead for 20 years) and told me about the first time he asked her on a date. They went to dinner and a movie, he walked her home, dropped her off and said "I'm going to marry you, you know." She thought he was crazy. What a pimp.

Thank you for reminding me of a great Dad story.

My parents were best friends in high school. They sat together on the bus, talking about their romances, etc. Dad went away to school and they kept in touch writing.

At some point while he was gone he decided that she was the one. He came home for a visit. She was engaged.

He tells her, "I'm going to come calling on you on Saturday."

"You better not." she replies. "Bill, (the fiance), is going to be there."

"I don't care. I'm telling you now that I will be there to call on you."

Sure enough, he shows up. The three of them sit uncomfortably in the living room together for a while.

Finally she gets up and calls Bill into the kitchen. She gives him the ring back. The rest is history.

One more...

My dad was engaged to a lady before he met my mum. He is a huge Manchester City fan (a football team you may or may not have heard of). It was an anniversary or some important event between the two of them and she demanded he be there instead of the weekly Manchester City game.

When he refused, she said 'It's Man City or me!'. He chose the football

She later ended up married to a wife-beater
