All,

I think is is sorta silly to toy w/ a poster like this, especially given Mat/Ryan's statements regarding how they feel about treating users.

so your saying we should ban him for good because he never once apologized and has continued to send hateful emails to Mat calling for him to lose his job? PITTM had his chance to give it another shot, if he can't deal with the abuse then he has to go for good. If he isn't smart enough to realize that if he was polite and reformed his tone that we would all ignore him then I have no pity for him.

In my eyes the current status quo was more a test of his resolve than anything else since he wasn't apologetic via email. And at the same time it was good for the members of the forum, it provided entertainment while seeing that anyone can attempt to reform themselves would be welcomed back, and those who do not are banned for good. So while I agree its silly, it did serve some redeeming purpose.

rj has not broken the t&c of this site. he has not posted horse porn. he has not spammed. he just flips out sometimes and overreacts.

i think he should be allowed to be a regular poster. it was funny for a few days and i figured everyone would get tired of it. unfortunately he emailed mat asking him about it, so this thread was bumped again. regardless, the right thing to do now is to let him be a regular poster again. you can always ban him later if you feel he's out of line, but it'd be incredibly hypocritical if the "out of line" reason was that you just didn't like him.

Is this a joke? A quick cruise through the mod notes showed that you participated plenty (kudos to you for at least leaving notes...I couldn't bring myself to do anything because of my history with him, I thought it would come off vindictively).

I am fairly surprised in an amused way just how much monkeying with his account was done, but it's something he should be able to shrug off. Unfortunately he takes everything personally so this probably won't end well.

Edit: Not that I necessarily agree with the underlying fact that it *is* hypocrisy.

Oh Dear Lord.

I had RJ blow up on me in IRC earlier today. Now this, festival of lol. Mat is an evil genius.

My position is this:

RJ is a normally ok poster, but he is simply unable to disagree with people without flipping out. This doesn't make for a really fantastic message board poster.

Nation, when you say he never broke the TOS, I feel like his posting is the equivalent of manslaughter or something. He's not intentionally derailing threads in the sense that a troll does, but his utter inability to play nice with others has the same end result. This of course, is not something he really understands or accepts. His perception is that he was banned for insulting Matt, and I don't think he understands just how much of a pariah he became.

All that said,

I think if we're unbanning istewart without any constraints, it makes sense to unban RJ (and to some extent yvesaint, although I'm not sure we should open that can of worms now). At the time he was banned, he was exiled from OOT, and I think that's probably best for everybody involved to maintain. He'll get in less stupid arguments in BBV4L and lord help everybody if he decides to frolic in politics or SMP.

In summary:

Unban RJ with no more hijinks, but exiled from OOT.
