Just watched the first two episodes of Friday Night Lights season 1. Soo freaking sweet. Seems it has the potential to be one of the best TV shows I have ever seen. Am I about to be very disappointed?

I don't really watch it...but it's one of those "great shows that no one watches" in the USA. They are in the second season now tho as I think they had a big fan uprising when they were gonna cancel it.

I heard season 1 was teh nuts, but I hardly have time to watch full seasons and I can't get into a show unless i see it from the beginning.

stone, I had my heart broken in June/July of this last summer and it sucked, still sucks. My gf of 2.5 yrs and I broke up and she started seeing/sleeping with another guy and I felt physically ill for weeks. I still think about her and it still bothers me at times even though I've now gone like 2 months without seeing her or talking to her.

I do have advice to give aside from just bitching about my personal experiences. If things really are over with this girl then you need to take a few months not seeing or talking to her. Trying to be friends right off the bat will be the worst possible thing to do, much worse than trying to be friends with her as you both move on romantically.

I disregarded this advice when my friends gave me this advice because I wanted to keep her in my life, I convinced myself that it would be better to try and be friends right off the bat than to have to give her up completely for any amount of time.

Also stay active. Go out with friends, take up new projects or hobbies, etc, the more time you spend doing other things the fuller your life will be and the less time you'll spend thinking about her.

Those are the two best pieces of advice I can give you. By no means give up easily, if you think there's a way to salvage it then go for it, but if she's pretty sure it's over then you need to take some time away from her, atleast a few months.

That's really rough. There's not a whole lot anyone can really say to you to make you feel better right now. Just realize that ALL long distance relationships run into big problems eventually, and really this is probably less of a reflection on you and more of an eventuality due to circumstance. When you just can't be a "real" part of each other's day to day lives, it takes it's toll. It sounds like you're there for the weekend, so despite it being uncomfortable, I would encourage you to try to talk to her as much as you can the next day or two and be as open as possible about your feelings. There's no substitute for face to face, so don't go into a shell until Monday because you've been hurt - but rather try to establish *something* to go on. She says she doesn't want to try to "fix things" this weekend, but that really probably means she doesn't want to have a wildly uncomfortable two days with you. If you can keep things open and honest and not get mad with her, you can hopefully provide a framework for you future (or lack thereof) together.

You really don't want to walk out of there in some huge state of limbo, and then have her end things via email/phone two weeks later while you wish you had said this or that while you were there.

If it's not meant to be, it's not meant to be. Try to remember you're still young and you have *everything* ahead of you. It's a stupid ass thing to say, I know - but I'm saying it anyways.

So - what do you play? What kind of jazz are you into? I play guitar and love me some Scofield - dunno if that's your speed or what. Where do you go to school? If it's here in the states I'm assuming Berklee based on your claims ;-)

Stone,

I pretty much had the same thing happen to me a few years back. It is awful. I really let it [censored] up my life in a lot of ways and didn't deal with it in a healthy way.

DO NOT TRY TO REMAIN FRIENDS. I know from experience that this is INCREDIBLY painful. I tried it for a while and as always I had a great time talking to her or hanging out with her, but in the end I was always left feeling unsatisfied. I could get past my feelings to have normal interaction with her, but after the interaction was over and I went home I felt terrible.

Do not wallow in misery. Make sure you are occupied as much as you possibly can. Join sports clubs, take up a new hobby, join yoga/karate/art classes, if you have to spend a lot of time practicing your music, try to do it with your bandmates so you aren't alone with your thoughts.
