Re: Official Limit-->NL Forum No Content Thread!

Fun live hand:

2/5 NL, most stacks are around 500, mine is at around 350.

Several players limp to me in the SB and I complete with Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. BB checks and we take the flop like 6 ways.

Flop is A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. I lead out for 15, BB folds, and an EP player raises to 110. An MP player behind him calls the 110. Another MP player folds the A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] face up, and everyone acts horrified. The button also calls 110. I'm pretty sure I don't have the full 9 outs, but I'm getting immediate odds to peel the flop for $95 more.

Turn is the 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. I shove and get called in 2 spots.

River is a 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. The MP who folded A9 goes batshit. I show my nut flush and luckily the other two guys muck face down, nobody having the K9 or a slowplayed KK. Ship the gigantic pot my way, thanks idiots for playing even worse than I did.

Bad players make costlier errors at NL. At the moment, playing micro NL is like having a licence to print money .. but how long can that last?

It is nice to make back all the days losses in one hand. Also nice to be in position with the nuts and someone betting into you playing for stacks. Just wish I could cash in the 80ptbb in sklansky bucks I won today.

Re: Official Limit-->NL Forum No Content Thread!

Yesterday I was playing at Party to clear a bonus. First time in a while I played there because:
(1) Contrary to public belief, Party is a nit factory at NL50 these days, compared to other sites,
(2) They give you 7 days to clear a bonus that takes 3 weeks for a casual player like me. So I just bought in for a 3rd of it.

Within 20 minutes, my preflop raises were 3-bet more than in 2 weeks of Everest and Stars. Actually, at 1 table my first hand in the BB was:

I get AKs, MP (6-max) raises to 4BB, I repoop to 12 BB, MP 4-bet to 40 BB I shove. , Flop comes Axx, QQ no good.

10 minutes later, I was down 1.5 buy-in because, yes, these people mean it when they shove PF. Grind back to 1 buy-in up by nitting it up.

Then I switched back to limit 2/4 cause it clears faster. Found several tables with 2 or 3 people playing VPIP/PFR/AF/WTSD = 70/25/2/40 and made 20 BB there.

Sometimes I think table selection is the only real skill in poker.

Edit: I'm leaving in repoop beause it's just too good.

Yeah, those party bonuses are horrible to clear now. Do you get the Empire ones. They clear in like no time. 10xs any raked hand, no min rake.

The average person who chooses to learn limit first is more intelligent than the average NL schmuck imo. This coupled with the overabundance of noise in the NL forums makes me want to post exclusively here.

Variance can be fun too!!!

This is mostly a reverse bad beat:brag post (thats why I'm posting it in this thread) but since I am so green at NL I am sure I played it wrong and wouldn't mind a bit if somebody told me the right way to play it.

At the time, on the flop I could only remember that a raise should be about 3X the bet but later I got to thinking that might just be preflop and I could've over played this flop and folded everybody

I know the check raise on the turn looks dangerous but I figured if he checked it thru I would push the river. ????

Anywayright or wrong it was fun to win that many BB in one hand

Bona, what a bonehead BB was. You c/r 2 times and he doesn't get the message. Usually these are HU anyway and you got the money in so well done.
BB hit his Q and couldn't lay it down, and put you on a desperate situation trying to shake him of and to him your river AI looked like a desperate action to bluff allthough Bona was working on a cunning plan to get his money in.

Come on, now who would c/r quads, right?

a general question to you limit players:

is multitabling common/standard?

if any of you have multitabled limit and no limit, how do they compare? is limit easier/harder?

NL is easier to 2-table, and is more of a waiting game, patience is needed. There is not so much of a grinding element, and there is less pressure to change your stats just because certain stats are regarded as nitty.

One reason why NL is easier to 2-table (for me) is because less energy is needed to worry about stealing or defending blinds, them being small in proportion to the potential pot.

I mean yah it is common. I'd say 90%+ play more than one table. However, I don't think you'll see many people 10 tabling limit. Your edges are usually much smaller in limit, so a single lost bet has a much larger impact on your winrate. So if you're continually missing those not so obvious opportunities, you're not going to be profitable above .5/1

Re: Variance can be fun too!!!

okay thanks. I was gonna try 10-tabling some 1/2 using supertight preflop standards in EP/MP, and see what happens. I'll probably give it a miss now.

Yah, preflop is just as important as any other street in limit. For example, you might miss opportunities to isolate weak players if you play that way.

Thanks for hanging out here. Hopefully it'll be a mutually beneficial arrangement.

Re: Variance can be fun too!!!

yeah, I was just wondering if a simple strategy preflop and multitabling might be a pretty good way to accrue some starts FPPs (I'm trying to get enough to get a bonus and a Wii for Christmas).

Something like:

Early: raise with AA-TT,AK,AQs
middle: raise if first in with AQ,AJs
late/blinds: if 2+ callers, limp with 22-99, Axs, 98s+,T8s+

I used to play tons of limit, so postflop doesn't worry me, and using this I'll be in so few hands, I'll have some thinking time.

I'll probably drop a bundle doing this, so maybe I'll give it a miss

I think it would well worth your time to examine this comment and consider where it comes from.

there is less pressure to change your stats just because certain stats are regarded as nitty.

[/ QUOTE ]

If you are thinking that increasing/decreasing the number of starting hands you play or betting/raising more to up your AF because those changes will improve your win rate it is worth your time to reconsider.

The reality is you learn concepts and apply the concepts situationally. Learn to read players and bet patterns for the purpose of putting opponents on hand ranges. Make the appropriate calculations and judgements in the situation that presents itself. Perhaps, and only perhaps an occassional review of your stats will tell you whether your work is paying off.

OTH working on getting your stats to comply with an established "normal range" is totally bassakwards and will likely destroy your win rate and your confidence. Just something to think about that I hope will help you.

Bona, what I was driving at was that it is so much LIBERATING playing NL after LHE.

part of it is the threat of all-in bet. This threat makes me very patient.

Re: Variance can be fun too!!!

I guess I misunderstood. At this point I am much more comfortable in limit. NL has all my orifices puckered . I have a lot to learn!!!

DB,

full ring or 6 max? I routinely 10 tabled FR when I played FR, and would play 7 or 8 6max tables when I played SH.

FR is waaaaaay easier to mulitable, you can play tighter and not hurt you as much, and the action is just a lot slower. You get more FPPs at SH tho. I would start out at 6 tables of FR, and just add a table every little bit until it gets overwhelming. If you have a limit background youll do ok. I never really tightened up that much, I would just avoid marginal spots if I was involved with several hands at other tables, otherwise I just played my normal game. You'll get a little less than .4VPP/hand at a 1/2 FR table

FR

meh I tried it last night, dropped $200 in like 2 hours at 1/2. I suck at multitabling Limit.

god you guys are crazy. I don't know how you do this. Is it just mental stamina that you build up by adding one table at a time?

50NL

I just played my first time 50NL, at Party. I don't usually play there because those shortstacking grauts tilt me but today I was drunk and took a shot at 50NL.....
224 hands, 14.73/9.38/5.00, ptbb10.99/100

I was calling the shots, me.

Not much difference to 25NL.

Re: 50NL

Interesting hand. Pretty sure I played it ok. Villain laughed at me.

Session Reviews

Any interest in getting some session review pairings set up like we used to do in the micro limit forum?

Hahaha, well I guess not. If anyone wants to swap some HHs with me, PM me.

In other news, I think it's time to find an avatar. Although I'm not going to actively hunt one out, my eyes are now peeled.

I've been doing this a lot lately and I know it's hurting my winrate (playing my monsters too hard). Nut straight w/ royal flush draw and I push him off his Ax. Villain was like 70/20/7 after 40 hands. I'm pretty sure I could have gotten him allin if I milked him right. This hand is at least -50BB in my book.

Ok, so in the past six hands I've raised this guy's min-raises to $0.80 three times. First time I had KQ in the BB, king on the flop, he folds to c-bet. Second time I had AA, he again folds to c-bet. I think I was starting to get on his nerves:

Re: Session Reviews

AMAZING session today. Sat down at a table, and after playing about 10 hands, I realized the guy to my immediate right was absolutely brain dead. As of right now, he's 74/3.4/1.66 after 697 hands. 28.25% W$SD. And get this: he's down $272.75 at 10NL for a whopping -195.66 BB/100

I usually play for about one hour sessions, but I told myself as long as this guy is sitting there, I'm still playing. So my session ended up being 243 minutes, at which point he was still playing, but I was feeling so brain dead I had to quit.

I played 240 hands at that table for a profit of $52.85 and BB/100 110.10. $35.50 of the profit was directly from him.

None of the hands against him were particularly remarkable, but the two best hands from the session were:

Villain was 21/17/8 after 445.

MP ($16.45)
Button ($14.45)
SB ($14.70)
BB ($1.60)
Hero ($21.05)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
Hero raises to $0.4, MP calls $0.40, 1 fold, SB calls $0.35, BB calls $0.30.

SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets $1.45, MP folds, SB calls $1.45, BB folds.

Turn: ($4.50) T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks.

River: ($4.50) Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $1.5, SB raises to $4, Hero calls $2.50.

Results in white below:
SB has 2h Ah (high card, ace).
Hero has As Kc (one pair, kings).

The time ran all the way down on that one. Almost folded, but called since the only thing I could conceivably put him on that made a drop of sense was AhJh. Even that was kind of sketchy though, so I called. Felt pretty good about myself after that one.

Then, a few hands later against the same villain (he's the one who pushes turn):
