They should just swap him w/ ARod.

Doesn't Arod play a subpar 3rd base and has gained 20lbs? I don't see how people think Arod can just slot back in to SS anymore.

[/ QUOTE ]

He lost a bunch of weight over the off season supposedly. For some reason he was better at SS the 3B...

If Jeter's main problem is his horrible reaction time wouldn't that be even worse at 3B?

Is that his main problem?

SL,

Its been a while for him definitely. I doubt swapping them would really solve any of the problems at the moment. And I don't think I really buy the argument that someone who was better at SS, but now plays a below average third base can magically move back to SS and resume GG caliber defense. Better than Jeter... Possibly. But I doubt swapping them would create any net gain except turmoil.

oops, I'm getting the discussion here confused with one from Primer a few days ago. I was referencing these posts here

I think that the study of defense is going to be most impacted by use of video technology. I saw a story--maybe it was here--which quoted a Baseball Info Solutions guy as saying that video of the Yankees showed the Jeter reacts more slowly to hit balls than any other Yankee, if you use a wide angle shot from behind the defense. The guy said that even on balls hit to Jeter, other fielders were reacting better initially. IOW, Mientkiewicz was moving to 1b to get ready to catch the throw before Jeter started going after the ball.

But, as I alluded to, the case against Jeter's defense is not reliant on the stats. If you get a replay at a high angle from behind home plate, watch to see when Jeter reacts to a batted ball. Unless it's a slow-hit ball, he always "waits" to move until the ball gets to or past the pitching mound. This is generally untrue of infielders, as far as I can tell.

Maybe right field is in his future then.

This data is nearly a month and a half old. as mgl cautioned when he published this at the start of June, sample size.

[ QUOTE ]
For those that are “surprised” at some of the 07 ratings, remember that it is based on an embarrassingly small sample of performance. Let your eyes and brain focus on the total runs column rather than the runs per 150. Looking at non-regressed UZR runs per 150 is like looking at a column that says 80 HR’s per season for A-Rod, and 55 HR per season for Hardy, or whatever it is.

prior reference to this list

i wouldn't be surprised if he gets moved to 2b within' the next few years

[/ QUOTE ]

If he wouldn't move for AROD, who might be the best player of all time, why do you think he's going to agree to move for someone else? Jeter will play SS until the day he retires because he's a complete dbag who only cares about his legacy, not what's best for his team.

this really isnt a surprise

but the last thing he is is overrated as an overall player

his offensive stats are sickkkk

[/ QUOTE ]

he is probably underrated a tiny bit offensively(everyone knows he's a great offensive player), but overrated defensively, he has 3 gold gloves

They play in different leagues. Chalk it up to variance. But yeah Vizquel having 54 GG's and Everett having 0 is censored up, yo.
