I'm not a Met fan but does anyone else think having Lo Duca in the 2 hole is retarded?

[/ QUOTE ]

No, I think he is the ideal number 2 hitter in that lineup. Anyone who thinks that LoDuca is bad in that spot could not have watched many Mets games last year.

I watched probably 130 games last year(thanks online poker) and Lo Duca was successful - though not as successful as wright obv. He is an aging catcher who is slow and doesn't hit for much power. He will almost certainly shave many points off his OPS this year whereas Wright will almost certainly improve. Lo Duca in the 2 hole isn't as bad as leaving Milledge out of the lineup in favor of Green, though.

I don't know that I watched 130 games last year, but with MLB.tv, I probably saw 100, and while LoDuca didn't make a mess of himself last year, everytime he came up with Reyes on, I wished it was DW instead.

I know in the grand scheme of things, lineups don't mean THAT much, but DW was a lot better than PLD last year and that was as a slightly overanxious hitter with no protection behind him. Put Beltran behind him, and pitchers basically have to feed him pitches to hit.

Reyes, DW, Beltran, Delgado, Alou would be an insane top 5. Let PLD hit at the end, where his skill at hitting singles can knock in some runners that are still sitting out there from the top half barrage and clear the pitcher's spot.

El Duque looks good so far. Mets need him to step up this year.

No apologies needed. I didn't get a chance to watch the game last night, but from the box score it seems El Duque did the job that we need him to. Offensively too. Ha!

Also nice to see that the Mets infield turned 3 more double-plays.

I can't believe we get to watch Braden Looper actually start tonight.

El Duque looked good, but I think most of the success is the Cards looking so bad. Without Pujols/Rolen hitting, they are in big trouble offensively.

With Looper starting, this is not the same team from last year.

While this is completely true, I wouldn't be surprised if Looper has a halfway decent year. They have a pretty good pitching coach over there in St. Louis...

Just curious, I for some reason only remeber Looper with 2 pitches, does he have 2 more "good" pitches? I'm assuming he does if he is going to start. My memory could be lying to me as well and he had a few to choose from.

Anyway, speaking of pitching coaches, one of the reason's that I was so excited that Pelfrey won the 5th spot was that he will now have a full season with Peterson, hopefully. I'm hoping that Peterson will also have time to work with Humber and Mulvy. Hell, maybe even Oliver Perez can actually become consistent. I'm not putting to much faith in Peterson, right?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he only had a fastball and sinker. But I think that I read that he has recently added a breaking ball and change-up to his repertoire. I could be wrong though and I have no idea how effective those two *new* pitches will be.

I'm hoping the same thing re: Pelfrey. And no, I don't think you are putting too much faith in Peterson. He has done an amazing job over the course of his career. The only pitcher that I can think of that he couldn't fix was Zambrano.
