I was rereading SEABEAST's well and he recomended watching the movie 'Oldboy' (Korean movie that won the 2004 Cannes) and it was absolutely fantastic. Acting was phenomenal, the directing was fantastic, and it used the kinds of plot devices you'd expect in a classic novel. You gotta see this film.
