One interesting thing I just noticed watching the game was that when he was calling for the ball in CF he was saying "I Got it! I got it!" instead of using spanish in spite of having another hispanic OF out there.

Huh, that is interesting. I guess it's better that he stays consistent with what he uses out there so that he doesn't confuse anyone.

BTW, good play there by Capuano on the double play. That was a big play as it doesn't allow the Mets to clear the pitcher position.

I know it's half of one game... but wow I can't wait to see Gomez in the regular lineup. I would be thrilled with a Beltran / Milledge / Gomez outfield, is this likely next season?

I didn't even think Gomez was going to be one of the outfielders. I expected it to be Martinez/Beltran/Milledge. But, what do I know.

Oh beats me, I'm not as into their farm system as I should be, I'm just pumped to see some good young talent as the corner OF is going to be ancient by next season

Martinez is still the age of the guys in High School that are waiting to get drafted this year. I'd say as a regular player you're more looking at 2009 unless he really knocks the cover off of the ball. Beltran/Gomez/Milledge seems far more likely, which would give us one of the best fielding outfields in the majors considering they are all natural CFs.

I missed the part where he said next year. I was thinking long-term. Martinez is assumed to be a long-term starter.

Thank God Perez is pitching well today. Mets needed a good start. Great to know he can come back from a mediocre start. Wish he settled down last start but I love him when he pitches like this.

Yeah I think Martinez is considered more of a long term option as well. If Gomez can make a good impression even over a limited sample size, don't rule him out as potential trade bait at the deadline.

James

edit: also remember that we're 3 years into Beltran's 6 year deal. It's quite possible Gomez is being groomed as the future CF with Milledge and Martinez in the corners. One or more of these guys will need to develop some more power for this to be a good solution for the mets, but it doesn't seem all too unlikely.

Gary, "So things continue to go....in the pink for the Mets on Mother's Day."

I mean I know these guys pull tail but no need to shout it out on television.

Damn. I remember that bloop from Capuano... I didn't realize until just now that it was the ONLY hit against Perez!

When this kid is on, he is ON. He will throw the Mets first ever no-no.
