nit = 14% VPIP and below, rarely if ever bluffs. (..) That's what I consider a nit. I dunno if other people have a different definition for nit...

[/ QUOTE ]
I basically took it for a combo of both low VPIP and low pfr, I wouldn't consider a 14/12 a nit; for me a 15/5 is a nit. Doesn't raise a lot of stuff on the button after limpers like suited connectors, small pp, etc.

I guess there is some overlap in all "nit definitions" but it isn't the same for everybody. Next time I'll post and say "villain is a nit" I should state what I mean by that.

This is an awfully small sample. You could be a 20PTBB/100 winner and have stats like that over 6k hands.

That said, you seem to not see enough showdowns. Examine your turn play. Do you check behind a lot of turns and then fold to a river bet?

[/ QUOTE ]

hey! I do that a lot now that I think of it! How do i fix this?

[/ QUOTE ]

If you check the turn behind villians are more likely to bluff (with a busted draw) or semi-bluff (with stuff like middle pair, especially if a scare card hits). It takes experience to recognise this. You can start by calling reasonable river bets more often in these situations to develop a feel for it. A good spot to start calling river bets is when you are unsure if you should bet the turn because you likely have the best hand. You can chose to check behind and call what you would have bet anyway on the turn.

Be prepared to pay some learning money on this, though, and don't start calling off your stack with top pair.

His raise was more than 10% of his stack. You should have gotten away from this preflop, you know...

Re: **Official uNL Microbrew thread: May**

Somebody explain me the theory behind "raising more when OOP". I see that as a advice here sometimes, but cannot understand the logic. Why do you want to create bigger pots when you are forced to play them out of position?

For example this was an advice for one AA hand, where one poster adviced to make a bigger 3-bet from the blinds because the player was OOP. I see no point to that, you either lose value because you are more likely to end the hand right there, or play a inflated pot OOP with rather large reversed implied odds.

Explain please?

Generally speaking, the more you raise OOP, the more strength you give to your relative position.

You've taken control of the pot and have given less room for the villain to use position to his advantage. Also, you don't want to price villains into playing a hand with position against you, because of that reason - they'll have more room (bb to pot ratio) to work with postflop and will thus gain more of advantage.

Re: **Official uNL Microbrew thread: May**

first off in that hand the initial raiser had been called so a bigger raise is necessary to give lesser implied odds to the button caller and keeping the hand heads up

i think the play to raise more in the blinds is better suited for a hand like AK/AQ ,mostly because you want to take it down preflop instead of playing it OOP ,
