This team is getting ridiculously painful to watch. Hopefully Schuerholz is able to get Buerhle for a package of Escobar, Thorman and possibly a mid-level prospect. Buerhle is the innings eater we desperately need and Salty needs full playing time at 1st.

BTW, what is the expected market value for Buerhle? Would 4 yrs. at $38-42Mil. be able to resign him? It could also be more backloaded so that when he becomes expensive, Hampton and maybe Smoltz are off the books so it wouldn't be that prohibitive.

The Braves won a game, hurrah. Maybe they will break out of their funk like the Mets did.

Buerhle will be too pricey for Braves. He wants a multi year deal at 10+ million a year. They'll need to go after a mid-pay level guy. The Marlins have a couple of good young pitchers but would they trade to a division rival?

You're right, I just read today that he turned down 3 yrs. at $30Mil. before the season and is looking more for 5 at $75Mil.. YUCK!

Hopefully Jo Jo Reyes can continue to tear it up at Richmond and they'll give him a shot to take Carlyle's spot in a few weeks. I believe he's the best pitching prospect we've had in a while, who really doesn't get much hype.

Excellent chance for a sweep tonight with Smoltz starting. That would be nice since this is the last home game until after the All-Star break.

Braves brought their bats tonight. Kelly Johnson may have lost his job to Escobar instead of platooning.

Anybody else find it funny that Smoltz and Chipper came out of the game in the same inning?

Please sit Wickman Bobby, he's awful lately. I don't understand why they don't give it to Soriano, he's lights out.

Wickman is going to give me a heart attack at age 23! He can't locate to save his life. And I agree Soriano is the man! He has proved himself well enough that he can be the closer.

He needs to be put down. I can't believe 4 run leads are now not good enough and are in jeopardy. This was the Padres for god sakes one of the worst offenses in the league.

here is head to head stats of the last 10 games for each

Wickman
Ip. H R ER HR BB K
8 14 7 7 2 2 11

Soriano
Ip. H R ER HR BB K
9 11 5 4 2 2 8

So yes neither has pitched their best the last bit.

Note: The July 1 game Soriano shouldn't have had to pitch, that was the game BW blew, the night after nearly blowing one.

And here are the season stats for each. At the all-star break.

Wickman
Ip. H R ER HR BB K Era
30.0 36 18 16 3 13 25 4.80

Ip. H R ER HR BB K Era
38.2 24 13 12 5 8 34 2.79

I think the Break will do both good. The whole bullpen is over worked. The Braves need atleast one more solid starter, TH can't pitch every game
