Geormiet - uhm, return it?

KBZ - I see, so price reduction drops gross profit margin from 53.1% to 29.6% (based on iPhone total expense in that linked article). Haha - yeah so they were teeing us up for an aggressive re-pricing. Just I mean, c'mon, 2 months later? Though, gotta say, AAPL's ability to generate buzz is pretty sick...

Depending on where you got it, you may be able to go back to the store and get the $200 back. I believe many stores honor sales prices that come 1 or 2 weeks after you buy something. Otherwise, you can just return it. Basically that's why they give you the difference, so they don't have to worry about a return and then trying to sell the item again.

but I can't imagine the early adopters/fanboys are too thrilled w/ Apples pricing.

I got one on the first day and I can't say I'm upset about this. I mean obviously I'd prefer to have paid $400, but it was worth $600 to me at the time, it was months ago, the money's spent and I don't think about it. I'm actually really happy they made the cut because now it'll be a lot more accessible to a lot of people.

oh yeah. I'm just not sure how repeatable this trick this...that is, assuming they were indeed 'planning' this all along

BTW, I've tried the iPhone in the stores and I can't [censored] type anything right on that thing. Even sideways with the bigger keyboard, my giant fingers miss the letters all the time. Plus, picking one link out of several near eachother on one webpage is an adventure.

That $200 price cut is digusting. People waited in line all across the country for this thing.

Now let me say my iPhone has been put to good use. I just feel to do a such a huge price cut within less of 3 months of its actual release is simply a slap in the face. Damn you Apple, you certainly swindled me.

I think they left money on the table. All the idiots who lined up for this thing would have paid even more. How could you not expect this exact thing to happen?

Al,

Wow, at first that sounded like a sick price drop. Then I got curious and looked up info on the RAZR.

The RAZR was priced at something like $600 when it came out in the second half of 2004 (Wikipedia says $800 w/out contract, $500 with).

A year later it was less than half that price, and two years later it was free w/ contract.

TBD: "I think they left money on the table. All the idiots who lined up for this thing would have paid even more. How could you not expect this exact thing to happen?" I think they knew they could have priced it higher to start, but also probably knew that they were going to price it at $400 for broader adoption and felt like that was about as high as they could go for release price without really pissing off their core support base when they dropped the price.

DKS: I also didn't like the touch keyboard. I text way slower on the iphone than my current basic phone (SLVR).
