My favorite line is Hitler, I mean Master-D, addressing you as "You damn fool." Between that and the exploding head I have no idea how this game made its way to the States.

Speaking of exploding body parts, anyone ever play the Legend of Kage?

Someone else misquoted the above to me recently, I blame them.

I too liked Legacy of the Wizard, and I played Immortal but never really got into it (although it's definitely unique and seems like it could be lots of fun-- I just remember not being able to figure out how to beat anything).

[/ QUOTE ]

From the Wikipedia article on the game,

[ QUOTE ]
The Immortal is legendary for its profoundly-steep learning curve and practically-impossible difficulty.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not sure about the learning curve, but yeah, that game was hard. I spent a lonnnnnnng time trying to get by a certain room where there's one path through and you're allowed minimal slop in deviating from that path. And for good measure, the only way of knowing where the path is is to use an item which makes a high pitched whining noise when you're about to die, and only lasts long enough to let you cross the entire room if you're really trucking. And I'm nearly certain that I must have been spoiled for some of the puzzles.

Gumpzilla-- yeah, I kinda even remember that about it at the time. But I'm not dumb, and I also remember thinking, if I was struggling badly with stuff this early, what would be the point? This wouldn't be fun. It's making yourself eat the entire 96-ounce steak so you can get it for free.

This is bad news for me. I will be playing this all the time. Can you still pull the nose-tackle slide?

[/ QUOTE ]

Use of the defensive line is outlawed in most online tecmo circles since it is really cheesy/requires no skill and makes many of the offensive plays useless.

Did anyone actually have any success at Nobunaga's Ambition? I remember holding two fiefs once. And that was it. I loved the game but jesus was it long - did anyone actually come close to winning at this? it was so rigged IME.

re: TSB - I'd love to get into these circles, although I'd like to know just how good people are. I've read the insanely detailed Leif Powers' FAQs - are people at a level where they exploit weak OLBs on running plays?

Base Wars or for 2-player mode
Battletoads

After reading the thread other mentions include: Contra, Ninja Gaiden, Battle of Olympus, Dragon Warrior, Double Dribble, Star Tropics. And I gotta include the original Nintendo Baseball game which was the first game I bought for $24.99. Man that game was so basic but it ruled.

Edited to add: Goonies II was wicked and I also really liked Gunsmoke.

[/ QUOTE ]

Gunsmoke! Yeah, I enjoyed the crap out of that game. The control scheme making it absurdly difficult to shoot straight ahead instead of at a 30 degree angle to the left or right was quirky, to say the least, but somehow pleasing.

Yeah, I beat it all the time it just takes awhile. You have to build up your resouces and army. Lots of patience, i.e. weed, required.

I've played online over 100 games. I started off losing my first 14 games. I routinely kick my friends asses in TSB, but online players are some tough competition. You'll find out soon enough that your playbook options are severely limited, and that you need to work on finding a way to consistently shut down the most popular run plays (especially the ones in run slot 3). It took a lot of practice to be competitive with the online players - I won about 55% of the time with the last 40 games. You have a very small edge unless you become INSANELY good at this game.

Your opponents will do anything to exploit your weaknesses.

As soon as I saw the title, I said "WOOW!"

This thread definitely needs an NCAA 64 (Games) style tournament to determine the winner.

I'd be down to put the brackets together, with seedings based upon responses thus far.

how happy were you the first time you learnt about the turtle shell/ stairs trick to get like 99 men in mario? but you had to be careful and count because if you got too greedy and took too many your game would be over...

[/ QUOTE ]

I was the only one of my friends that could do that trick. I went back to try it again when I got it on the wii, but couldn't remember what level it was on. However, I could remember the location of just about every hidden block in the game. It was weird how much comes back to you even after 20 years.
