The whole thing could turn into a nice little symbolic media event. The Navy presents a check (possibly for less than 600K) to some Jewish charities and the Holocaust museum. And the building itself gets some kind of plaque commemorating "rational remembrance". Or something along those lines.

It seems too much like a payoff for offending Jews, and that will just turn into a big free for all if you think about all the other things that govt might have done to offend various groups. And the party receiving the check would look like race hustlers, similar to Jesse Jackson.

The assumption was made that the money was about to be spent anyway. And you can forget the part about asking for it to go to a Jewish charity rather than some other charity. I only suggested that if the Navy felt like it should be a gesture toward specifically Jews. ANY useful purpose is better than shrubs.

They should just put those four buildings on the top of the list of buildings that need extensive repairs and move on with their lives.

Why? This seems completely irrational to me. We can spend 600k to:

1) Alter the shape of a building with an offensive shape which can only be seen from the air.

2) Do something productive

It would be a different story if the shape of the building were readily visible to passersby or if it had a swastika lawn sculpture, but this is a "problem" that hardly anyone will ever see.

Ok, how about this, since the government/navy built a building in a shape that offends jewish people, how about we take that 600k and build a building that offends the government/navy? Like a charity building in the shape of a sickle and hammer or something.

I don't think the navy should spend money to camo this building but I do find it curious that the posters feel that only Jews are offended by the swastika. Should I assume that it's fine with everyone else?

i haven't read the thread but i noticed a couple swastika shaped buildings here in phoenix when i was messing around with google once.
