Nono, I mean I gesture to my buddy, who says he saw a flash.

I must admit I'm a bit taken aback by how drastically people are reacting. I certainly understand it may be a little silly, but I also see how it could be warranted where I deal.

By the time you look at your card and gesture to your buddy and he speaks up it is too late to claim its flashed. Throw in that when it flashes its generally obvious to everyone (even if they didn't see it, that the way the card was pitched may have flashed. iF you or your buddy make a habit of claiming a card flashed when it looks like a perfectly pitched card people will figure out what is going on (especially since your scenario always requires a delay while you look at your card.

Well, okay, whatever. Think of something else then. I'm just throwing out hypotheticals. I don't make the rules, I just try to deal by (and with) them.

What I can't believe is that with this rule you don't have players going beserk everyday.

I know that if I walked into the room and had my card cartwheel to me flashing to every player at the table and i was told that I have to play it becaus eit landed face down I would go absolutely ballistic and I am generally not incllined to fits of anger.
