Derren Brown is one such uber-sick body language reader. Also he has ridiculous memory/recall skills. And he can hypnotize people. Has a few TV shows in the UK that vary from kinda lame to extreme mind-blowing awesome.

In this 10 min clip from a recent show, he teaches hand reading skillz to an old lady who has never played our favourite game before.

Interesting indeed.

Maybe, here is a trick - maybe work for you, maybe not...

Watch the video I linked above.

In it, there is the "high card / low card" bluff detection exercise. Do this with a few friends, even better with other people. We used to do this in one of my A-Level classes, was either psychology or communication studies, can't remember.

Concentrate on the eyes, do it for a few hours, you will get better.


Here's a tip - if you actually see the "tell" it is 75%+ a reverse tell. A real tell is too fast to be consciously observed, you will just get that gut feeling true or false.


I would imagine most everyone here can identify with the feeling of speaking to someone, knowing they are not on the level, but you can''t quite place ehy... it is all in the eyes.

It takes an extraordinary skill to overcome the subconscious tells your eyes portray, when observed by a skilled reader - sunglasses are no doubt an effective read blocking mechanism, but of course they will reduce your visual acuity. The EV of waring them depends upon your ability to control your own tells, but traded against how much information you can read from your opponents.

Seriously, try "high card / low card", ideally with strangers - but that's not so easy to organize [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

what about for people who wear glasses? is it possible to get prescription sunglasses that aren't overly tinted?

gaucho, my bet was oliver peoples too...i was in saks last week in NYC looking at sunglasses and they have a whole case of them, in addition there are two oliver peoples boutiques in NYC...one in soho, one uptown on madison...they make a lot of glasses with different shades of blue lenses that are really sweet

My favorites still go to Prahlad tho during last years world series. They were cartier rimmed screw motif sunglasses. the only beat is they cost 650 while most are top end glasses are 250-300.
