extra ordinary

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm thinking (thin king) that taking apart compound words shouldn't count for this thread.

[/ QUOTE ]

So manslaughter from the OP isn't a compound word? Besides extraordinary isn't even a compound word. That wouldn't make any sense now, would it?

[/ QUOTE ]

Man+Slaughter is the compound word, Mans+laughter isn't.

Extra: beyond or more than what is usual, expected, or necessary
Ordinary: customary; usual; normal

Thus, extraordinary is beyond normal. I think you are interpreting extra in the word as making the word mean "more ordinary" which is possible, but the word extra has multiple meanings.

Anyway man, lighten up. You act like he called you are moron or something.

Try again.

Huh? I'm right, and your link basically says so...

"from extra + ordinem"

Plus a couple links on the first page of a Google search that tells you the same thing...
Source 1 that says extraordinary is a compound word
Source 2 that says extraordinary is a compound of two latin words

Yea, and ordinem means order, not ordinary. Please direct me to the link that backs up your claim that extraordinary is a compound word made up of the english words extra and ordinary.

I'll be waiting...

Upon further research, extra is actually a shortening of extraordinary. Learn something new.

However, that just means your original claim is even more retarded because it's basically like, "hey, if you take this word apart, you get the shortened version of this same word and another word that is what the other word is derived from!"

Douchebag.

Oh wait...douche & bag. Holy [censored]. This game is amazing.

And if I'm still wrong, who the [censored] cares. I'm not a grammer nit. I was just trying to point out that your choice for this thread is completely off of the topic at hand and you don't want to admit it and even called out the OP for choosing a word which was entirely on HIS topic, not the one oyu made up in your head.
