could u guys be any more resulted oriented

trading mirabelli for bard was a stupid overreaction but ur talking about a fairly marginal downgrade in ur backup catcher

nobody thought cla meredith was worth anything at the time. scouts didnt like him, he had just blown up in the majors and was sucking in AAA.

possibly revisionist history, but meredith has claimed that the sox coaches were f'in with his delivery and he hated it there

LOL @ marginal downgrade. josh bard is most likely better than jason varitek at this time, nevermind mirrabelli, whom he is FAR more valuable than (not to mention DM costing a lot more).

yeah and it sure looked like that a year ago

the indians getting bard for kelly frekaing shoppach included in the crisp/marte deal was considered a minor coup for them at the time

Re: *official 2007 red sox thread*

it has nothing to do with being results oriented, meredith was 1 year out of pitching at VCU, and had dominated minor leaguers until his premature promotion (and wasn't even bad after it), he was obviously valuable. kelly shoppach has been called one of the best defensive catchers in baseball, i dont think its fair to say he's a worthless throw in.

it was a bad trade then, its a horrible trade now. i think you have to realize how much mirabelli actually sucks and how little his contribution actually is (especially considering varitek's sharp decline). if kottaras isn't ready within a year, the sox are in trouble.

But wasn't it fun watching Mirabelli being rushed from Logan Airport to Fenway Park in a State Police cruiser, getting changed into his uniform in the back seat and just getting to the Park in time to catch Wake?

Nah.

i seriously doubt meredith was in baseball america's top 20 red sox prospects before the season started. maybe he was like 18th or something. and then he sucked in AAA at the beginning of the year. he was not obviously valuable.

he was ranked 20th. and lol at thinking a guy is worthless after ~14 poor innings as a 23 yr. old in AAA
