I found mine on:

www.ehealthinsurance.com

and I pay like $900 a year for for a policy with a 1k deductible.

If you are young, healthy, don't smoke and male you can get an individual policy pretty cheaply.

I don't have dental, its just not worth it to me. If you have wisdom teeth or need braces or something then it makes sense I guess. If I need to get a cleaning/checkup or even a filling its not a major expense.

Insurance is a -ev proposition that is designed to reduce catastrophic variance.
The reason I have health insurance is because I don't want to be completely screwed financially if something terrible happens. There is nothing that can happen to my teeth that would threaten my financial well being.

Cliff Notes: brush your teeth.

i just use blue cross/blue shield, but i dont need dental b/c my father in-law owned his own dental practice and part of his deal when he sold it last year is that the new dentist gives his family free dental care for life

this is repeated often on 2p2, and i don't think this is accurate.

while it may be -$ev, i think it is not -lifeEV (in the same sense there is a divergence between $ev and cev in tournaments)

1) the marginal value of each extra dollar you have is reduced.
2) the risk of ruin (by not having insurance) is greater than 0. obv, life is not a rebuy tournament.

Utility functions ftw! I tried explaining to an insurance agent how I was effectively self-insured for the amount of my auto deductible, so paying a higher premium to lower that deductible was both disutile and -EV. For some reason she still gave me the life insurance sales pitch. Oh well.
