Re: Bold, Aggressive... check

Okay, let's look at this carefully.
First off, Hero raises in a 9-handed game. Now, this isn't some final table of a televised donkament where Gavin Griffin will raise Q3s just because, well - it takes a whole lot of time to zoom out from Gavin Griffin, and something interesting is bound to happen during all the time he is on camera, this is a 9 HANDED CASH GAME HAND PEOPLE. Online! Online, the play is 10 times as snug as live. A raise at a full table bloody means something!

I think it's reasonable for villain to put us on TT+ here.
Then, what happens?
Flop is QTT, villain has QQ, so that rules out QQ for us.
Our range is hence TT,JJ,KK,AA.
When we come out firing, out of position, villain has to put emphasis on the stronger end of our range.
JJ goes out the window.

Assign a weighted probability towards TT, as we might want to check our two pair hands due to position, and the hand playing very deep (> 100bb). Still, there is one combination of TT out there, and 6 each of KK and AA, so let's assume we have 1/3 quads, 2/3 overpair here. Overpairs have outs here people!

Come turn, an insignificant deuce falls, yet we thrust ourselves into a deceptive check/call, that has to set of alarm bells for villain. If we had an overpair, we must know we are beat, right? So why does hero check? Either hero holds the nuts, or he in fact IS nuts, chasing value where there is none, drawing to a measly topfull.

Now, with this weighted range, going into river, with the A falling. What could we possibly have?
I'm going to assume that villain thinks we will lay down the only hand he beats (KK) to a river bet, but goes for a clever check/raise with quads - while of course making a disciplined call with aces full.

All in all, well played villain!

this is a matter of the actual mechanics of the game, not of strategy so nth level-thinking is not necessary

They always say that the best players don't play the numbers... they go with their gut. Here's to "going with your gut" and finally deciding that your opponent must have TT when he checks that river.
