heehee.....you left that game pretty healthy right? I was gone not too long after you. had the other deep stack on my left and neither of us wanted to tangle. The gambling at the table got pretty wild after you left too.

GL will say hi if I see ya there.

lol I was barely up for that day - I was in for the tournament and about 1.5 buyins, so even wasn't quite $500.

Trying to remember who was on your left....was it that guy who was playing absolutely insane and calling with any pair?

Okay, well, the main thing is that I remember Daniel Negreanu once bought into the Wynn 5/10NL for $100,000 and was unbeatable..I mean it wasn't even fair...how is a $1,000 stack going to even have a chance when Negreanu can put them all in with the flick of a wrist or wave of a hand?

I was in this game. Daniel made it $50 UTG and I put him on 99. I made it $250 on the button with AA. He made it $1000, and i only had $2k left. I realised that he was so deep he had huge pot odds to hit his set and we might be chopping, so I made a good fold.

LifeAquatic:

You confused the two issues. 1k is not a short stack at a 5/10 game. But 100k is a huge stack that will hold no added value when playing against a table with an average stack of 100BB. Either way you will have to adjust your play to the other players obv. If the guy with 100k stack is raising preflop to 200$ every other hand, yes, you won't be able to play your suited connectors and small pairs as often without the proper implied odds and pot odds. And you won't be able to play a good aggresive tricky game of poker. But you will be able to sit back and collect from a player who will be absolutely spewing chips on the table. Now, if he is playing regularly, with normal sized preflop raises etc. you will play him absolutely the same as a player who also has 1k, the effective stack size in play. His added 99k will be there to impress the ladies and tip the cocktail waitresses with.

And on the second issue, if you are short stacking at a table (which I don't do because I prefer to play deep stack poker), you won't be calling preflop raises looking to hit sets with PP's and straights/draws/two pair etc. with suited connectors. You'll have to employ a tight AGGRESIVE preflop strategy that won't often include cold calling preflop raises. You mentioned getting it allin preflop with AA vs 2or 3 people. Yes. you are not a huge favorite vs. the field. But you do have a significant edge and will still be making a very large profit in the long run in these situations. You aren't putting your entire roll on a short stack. On the contrary, you are putting a smaller fraction in than normal, and shouldn't mind reloading when your short term variance is running worse than your long term expectancy is.

Assuming this is not a second level level, you're without a clue.

You dont understand how cash game poker works or how EV works in a cash game. Negreanu has NO advantage over the shortstacks just because he bought in for 100k.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually, the short stacks have an advantage over him, in the sense that he's the better player and better players have an advantage playing deep, and you take away his depth.

a dealer and I got into an arguement about this the other day, he stated that if I went to the 10/25 table and 'short' stacked a 1k buyin I would get eaten alive, because even though I could get it allin preflop with AA they wouldn't hesitate to call me with 4,5 because 1k is nothing to them. lol dealer.... lol.

i just want to point out that you don't get to be a dealer without having a deep and nuanced understanding of the game, so perhaps--just perhaps--you might want to reconsider your stance in light of the advice that dealer provided you, instead of being flippantly dismissive of his insights.

I think the 10/20 game will take alittle while to get popular. Once it does it will likely take the 10/25 game's steam because if you want to play uncapped you can just move up to 10/25.

I would assume over time it becomes common to have the regular 4 - 7 5/10 tables going and 1-3 10/20 games going on a weekend.

Also, which table were you guys playing at Saturday (SellingtheDrama and hamsamich)?

I was the guy from Staten Island who had the blue shirt on with brown hair sitting in the 4 seat on the table that was in front of the 10/25 NL game.

spress.....sounds like you were in the hi limit room....we were outside @ a 2/5 table. I'll be down this Saturday playing 5/10 & maybe check out the new 10/20 game if there is one going.
Wow...another 2p2r from SI....yea baby.

I was born in Oakwood and live in Rossville now.

Hamsamich - Yeah I was in the high limit room. It was packed last weekend.

I will probably be down there Saturday too. A friend of mine is coming with so I may play 2/5 with him or just play 5/10 myself. I think it should be good this weekend with the Breeders Cup in NJ, alot of extra gamblers will be in the horse room.

I'll probably be at the 2/5 game...5/10 and I haven't gotten well this year and the 2/5 is just so juicy these days I have trouble passing it up. Knowing me as soon as I get to 2k in the 2/5 I'll probably bounce back up.

Yeah...horse weekends do bring extra gamblers into the games.
