villian could definitely have a set here, and it would've been easy to find out if we had just bet the flop.
by not betting flop, you have to call this river.

The river fold isn't bad and could easily be right. The problem is the flop check. Bet/folding the flop accomplishes the same thing as checking behind and calling turn, with the added bonus that you don't give AK a free 6 outs. I wouldn't worry about AK running some monster bluff, people are too afraid of losing their stacks in idiotic fashion.
