Basically it's impossible to make money online. Everyone loses in the long run except the house and their rigged accounts.

Playing online payed for my education and all i can say is start small and move up limits as you get more confident and a bigger bankroll

2.) Get Broke
3.) Take a McJob to re-build your bankroll
4.) Repeat #s 1-3 ad infinitum.

Get poker tracker. Once your poker hourly rate is twice that of your regular job I would consider leaving your regular job.

If you want to supporting a family I can't see playing less than 1/2 NL.

If don't feel like getting a summer job, you only need to beat nl .1/.25.

Unlike all of the other posters, I'm actually going to help you out with good advice.

If you want to make a good living, first deposit your $500 on full tilt poker, and get it doubled to $1000 with the bonus.

This is called your "bankroll".

Now when you sit down on a table, you will be dealt cards. Different cards have different values.

If you watch any poker on TV, I assume that you already know that pairs are the strongest starting hands. After pairs, the strongest cards are aces. AK-A2, then kings, KQ-K2, then queens...etc.

When you deposit your money, sit down on a table with your bankroll. Generally, you want to start out with 0.2 buy-ins for a given limit, so $1,000 is good enough for $25/$50. Your strategy will be to slowplay slowplay slowplay strong hands, and bet weak hands and bluff alot. Typically, you need to bluff at least 5 times to win.

Use the frog avatar on full tilt poker, that way, you can give off "fake tells". You need to get angry whenever you have a good hand, and get happy whenever you have a bad hand. This way, you'll trick your opponents into calling your value bets and folding to your bluffs. Don't worry, if you go bust, just deposit again; it's a very easy process. Players rarely go bust in poker, especially when playing with only $1,000.

After a long session of good strong play, you might become the chip leader, or at least 2nd place. Your strategy there is to use your big stack to bully your opponents. Few opponents want to call $20,000 bets when they only have $5,000 on the table. Good luck at the tables sir, I wish you luck.
