It's cool to see Rummy out and everything, but I wouldn't be too excited about Gates coming in. Closer ties between the CIA and the DoD are not good news for the USA.

Dont be too sure about that. Special Forces operate together in many of the things that you never hear about on TV. Example, MARSOC (Marine Special Operations Command) happens to deal in things not relating to Iraq/Afghanistan, but other hot spots in the world. They share intel with FBI, CIA, and our own Marine intel units. Country briefs, terrorist activity, and more.
