My favorite last words are "Thomas Jefferson..." uttered by John Adams. Political rivals, both were dying on July 4, 1826, and they were trying to outlast each other. Jefferson died a few hours before Adams did, but he died thinking he'd succumbed first.

I think his last words were "Thomas Jefferson survives."

That is some crazy [censored], though. It was on July 4th, exactly 50 years earlier that the Declaration of Independence was passed--writted by Jefferson and defended by Adams. They went on to be fierce political rivals for the presidency after, hence the last words--Adams claimed he would outlive Jefferson.
