No and no.

In fact, the only thing that would make me consider doing it, is if everyone would know that I chose not to. I'd have to imagine pretty much everyone alive would hate me then.

in both examples, how do you know that you are actually saving people's lives?

In example one you die and everyone lives on without knowing about it.
In example two you die and everyone thinks you are a mass murderer.
how can you guarantee that you actually save anyones life when you die? Only when you live and others die are you sure...

I don't really care about this question as it's not likely to happen to me any time soon, but I am interested in the way I would die if I went that route. Most of the ways I could die would suck, but if it could be something pleasant like a heroin overdose (which I imagine would involve bliss followed by drifting off) or if I was nailing Kate Beckinsale and then my heart exploded then yeah, it's something I might consider.
