Re: Official Party Regulars Thread

posted this in "general discussion", but you partypeople seem to be way more active, so i ask again:

i often hear / read how much tougher it is to make money at $5/$10 as opposed to $2/$4 or $3/$6.

i would love to hear some opinions from winning 1k regs (or higher).
or maybe a trip report from moving up.
what winrate can you achieve (and sustain)?
what is your edge when there are very few fish (do you have to be a genious)?
is it even still profitable?

I think poker winrates are the least of your concerns...

why do you think its a really bad idea?

[/ QUOTE ]

Embarrasment factor for fish mostly, it's not right to show their cards like that if they don't want to (they do have the option to show, of course).

Besides, doesn't pahud show the hands right after anyways?

[/ QUOTE ]

Most of the fish enjoy being "all in" and having the excitement of knowing what they have to beat or dodge.

I dont think that applies to fish only, I like it a lot better when I know what I have to dodge and/or hit.

Side note: Im finally winning again..yay!

Side note 2: Why is it so [censored] hard to get money on party

Shipitkthx posted a screenshot of datamined hands from different limits: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showfl...art=27&vc=1

Alot of hands are missing but these screenshots dont show some random 2+2r who went on a heater and posted a selective screenshot to brag.
Notice how few players there are who played more than 20k hands (which is not very many) with a winrate of more than 5bb/100.

An impressing 2+2 screenshot with a winrate of 5.34bb/100: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...age=0&vc=1

You can make your own conclusions from the stats. Imo only the very best players can sustain a winrate of 5bb/100 without game selection. And since you have to ask these questions you are not anywhere good enough to achieve a winrate close to this in the near future.
But dont focus too much on winrate and compare it to some of the shortterm winrates shown here - like the ones posted by aislephive and Reguin above - or some of the longterm posted by players such as cts.

No. You could learn to exploit the weaker regs or you could move down. I do the latter. Don't stick to one limit but play where the game is good. Move down or up depending on where there is most $ to be made. This is hard and you have to be honest to yourself about your poker skills.
I play 3/6-25/50 but in the last year I have made more than 2/3 of my $ at 25/50. I probably couldn't beat a tough 5/10 game (I don't know for sure since I never play in one).

Game selection is so important.

You need a large bankroll to do this, but you don't need 100k to play one session of 25/50 as long as you quit when the game is no longer good - even if you are down 2-3 buyins.

Yes
