mike scott is random 80's trash?

[/ QUOTE ]

I looked up his stats and he is better than I remember, but still pretty obscure. Obscure does not equal trash though.

Mike Scott? Obscure? No. He was only the best pitcher in the NL in 1986.

speaking of Cy Young award winners people might not remember:

LaMarr Hoyt

but yeah someone like Bill Doran is a way better pick from the Astros

The thing about Mike Scott that I remember most was that he was slated to start Game 7 of the NLCS. The Mets could not lay a glove on him. Had they not made that comeback in Game 6 and won that incredible game, they would never have won Game 7 and it would have been the Astros in the WS.

I remember Mike Scott throwing his no-hitter in the Astros division-clinching game in 86.
The Reds were mathematically alive and they simulcast the game in Cincinnati.

People forget how amazing Mike Scott was in '86. He won the Cy Young, but by the time the playoffs came, you had that feeling that he was unbeatable. I remember watching game 6 of the NLCS with a die-hard Mets fan, and they knew that was a completely do-or-die game, with Scott scheduled in the Dome for game 7- he had 2 dominating complete game wins in the series, and was rested (Gooden was not).

In my mind, that game 6 has to rank as the worst Astros loss in their history (and I know they made the WS, and a game 7 of the NLCS). They had a 3-run lead going into the 9th, and a bunch of opportunities to win it in extras. 1986, best postseason ever?

Struck out against Nolan Ryan more times than any other player.

Didnt know that. I remember he flipped over the outfield fence making a spectacular catch to end a game. This was at the old Fulton County stadium when it had those short fences. He actually got hurt on that play and then the next season the put in much taller ones. And then Dale Murphy cut the crap out of his hand when it got caught in the seam of the new fence.
