Or the Heat are shooting like 900% from the field, so the Pistons don't even have a chance to foul as much. Also, in any given game, sometimes one team will foul more than the other...crazy, I know

The point is, the refs aren't willfully screwing the Pistons here. It's not like Vabetta deciding to call a 5 second violation instead of the timeout...

You watch the replay of the Wade play and Wade's hand/arm hit nothing but air and McDyess was short with the dunk...the refs evidently didn't see the body contact or didn't feel it was worth of a foul...
