Can't he just shut up and play the highest games on full tilt?

[/ QUOTE ]

he already does, and he crushes them. He just cant publicly talk about it because he is sponsored by UB and isnt supposed to be playing anywhere else. I thought this was pretty common knowledge?

Whats his name on Full Tilt bro?

Someone with a ton of NL experience back then was probably someone who had played like 10,000 hands lifetime. Now with all the info available, with people who have played millions of hands and studied the game with tools like Pokerstove (keep in mind the Hellmuth who apparently crushed these games was the same one who thought AKo was a favorite over AK suited).... geez pre-boom games must've been 5x softer.

[/ QUOTE ]

How does this mesh with somethign Greenstein said here that the number of hands played is not important, the quality of opponent is... So someone who played one million hands against mediocre opponents would be owned by someone who played against the top players for 10,000 hands.

I also think live games and online games are SO different in how you play, that experience in one is of much less importance than experience in the one you will play.

For those that are serious in defending Hellmuth as a tournament player - please address this:

Why have his WPT results been so mediocre, when a lot of the best tournament players around (by reputation) like Negreanu, S Nguyen, Ivey and Greenstein have done so much better in these events?

By the way, isn't Hellmuth something like 0 for 7 on Poker After Dark?

How can people still not know Hellmuth's Full Tilt s/n? He plays the big games, like, literally every day.

Amount PH actually cares about anybody's opinion but his own = zero. It's all a facade to make himself more marketable. Seriously, everybody hates him. Yet, we can't stop talking about him.

Hellmuth wins. We all lose.

The guy has nothing to prove. He's loaded to the gills with cash. He could not play poker for the rest of his life and have more money than 99.9% of these pro poker players/gamblers.

I like Phil...He makes sick reads...and VERY SICK laydowns...he makes laydowns that no one in the world could make... Doyle said he is the best tourney player in the world. He said something very interesting in PAD...why would i put my chips in a 2-1 pot as a 2-1 dog when my chips are worth 4-1?

You guys simply don't see the beauty of Hellmuth's game.

In fact, there is a lot of truth in this. He plays a good counterstrategy against aggressive players and he provides an image to encourage people to run him over.

You know in Super/System when Doyle talks about you can just rob someone constantly, and then even if you get in with the worst of it sometimes, you're still freerolling with all the chips you've stolen from them?

Hellmuth is the guy on the other side.

Re: Phil Hellmuth best holdem player by far

Hellmuth is one of the strongest tournament players. His big strength is reading amateur players, which is much less useful in high stakes cash games or online.

Typical of Hellmuth to say he is the best, but as someone said if you are the best, you won't say it, other people will say it for you.

Kind of funny for Hellmuth whose father was a dean at U. Wisconsin to act this way, when Ivey and Brunson show a lot more class.

Sometimes children of priviledge are the worst behaved. I think in Ivey's and Doyle's lives they've had a lot more to worry about in the past than a bad beat at the table.

I am kind of curious too... What is Helmuth's track record in WPT events. They have big pots in those events. If he was the best NL Tournament player in the world, it seems like these would be good tournaments for him to play.

Ummmm Hellmuth has made multiple WPT final tables but gets owned when the likes of celebrated donks like Hoytt Corkins make perfect runner runner trips when PH has him dominated preflop and hits his kicker on the flop.

Given that the aim of poker is to make money, and the aim of tournaments is not to fancy-play your way to glory but to amass chips, I'm really at a loss trying to figure out why you think that that doesn't make him a good player. Nearly every poker book I've read says "avoid the tough players, play the fish" and you criticise Hellmuth for doing that?

Ummmmm, Hellmuth made one 10K WPT open event final table. If you count invitational and smaller buy ins($3000), the total goes up to a total of 4.
So I give him credit for one WPT main event Final table. He finished 4th.

i think the pros are loathe to compliment Phil H. too much for the obvious reason that Phil's personality makes such
compliments superfluous.

[/ QUOTE ]

So why were two well known poker personalities ROLLING ON THE FLOOR while PH goes on and on about how he is "the best and it's not close"?
