Haha, glad to hear it fish!

And yes, English teacher indeed. My plans post-graduation are certainly up in the air at the moment. While I likely will settle back into my hometown area, I am not at all against moving to another state (assuming I'll still be qualified in said state).

Also, my mom's father had a decent amount of Indian in him and so she has this fascination with them and what not. My two younger half sisters are named Lakota and Cheyenne even.

Annnyway, it would certainly make her happy if I did it. I think we have some exciting implications possible here.

2 years from right now I will be in my first real full time job (The fall semester of '09).

I really really despise snow though. I just realized you probably get lots of snow. I don't know if I can manage this. I shall be under consideration for sure

One reason why im happy to be back in Michigan is because Im gonna be eating venison bratwurst and chewing on venison jerky real soon.

[/ QUOTE ]

MMMMMM, ya. Eating is one of the best parts! We use antelope for sausage and jerky and it is really good too. I am going to experiment with making my own sausage this year so that will be fun and interesting as well! So far I am planning on some breakfast sausage, some summer sausage and pepperoni sticks.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'd be interested to hear how that goes for you. There are a couple of supposedly really outstanding books on sausage making out now that look really great for someone who has the time and wants to put in the energy. Charcuterie I think they call it? I've gotta say, sausage is often not very good, but excellent sausage is fantastic, and if you get the knack and the knowledge down, the results would probably be incredible and something really to be proud of. You might have all your friends' Christmas presents figured out for the rest of their lives!

[/ QUOTE ]

LOL, Yes, we will have to see how the sausage making goes. It should be fun trying it out anyway.

Meat/Sausage has been given as a christmas present more than once.

Don't you ever let someone tell you that giving meat and sausage is a poor gift. I've heard people like this and just mark them down as a little nutty. Quality meat goes a long way in building a friendship, sir.

So....I'm writing to you all from my ibooklaptop (creation date: ~1933).

I decided to try and upgrade my PC from 2000, which I love, to XP solely to watch netflix movies on xp...and it crashed my computer.

I still can get all of my files (I hope) but I'm going to have to reinstall programs and stuff....

Seemed like a good low content contribution.

Good luck with that Solo and keep us updated.

What are all the rest of you loungers doing today? What's on the schedule?

I need to pick a new restaurant to eat at tonight. Last week I picked a new Thai/Sushi place. Service was great and the menu was interesting. I kept thinking about what Bourdain wrote in Kitchen Confidential...stay away from the manager's specials and be leery of the sushi. The Thai dishes were awesome but the sushi was blah. I'm almost embarrassed to say this but I actually ordered some "fried" sushi on the recommendation of a friend. It was very strange.

Anyway, today I'm supposed to address a bunch of bills and paperwork that have accumulated on my kitchen table as well as on my bookcases. I wish I would not do that with my bills. Also wish I had a personal assistant.

OS Upgrades, crashes and reinstallations suck. Did you try to do an upgrade with the old OS still there or did you back up important stuff, wipe it clean (reformat) and install XP on a fresh hard drive?
I highly reccomend a clean installation over an "upgrade" installation over an old OS. Also make sure to take the time to get Service Pack 2 and any updates installed first thing. Get everything current with the OS, and working, then make a restore point before installing any apps. PITA but hopefully everything ends up OK.

LOL, Ya, I am up early every day now. Can't sleep in. The alarm clock in my head won't let me. Well, that and the dogs get up and need to go out and be fed.

We were going to head out really early to hunt but my wife worked bartending last night so really early didn't work well.

As soon as I am done with this we are heading out hunting. We are going to look for an antelope buck for the wife and then look foe a buck for her and hopefully get into an area that has whitetail and get a doe or two if we can. Sunday and monday will be hunting days as well. She had Monday off for Veterans Day so I took a vacation day and that will be nice. The deer are just starting into the rut right now so the chances of finding her a buck go up!!!!

Tonight, I have a great big honkin venison roast in the slow cooker so we eat goot!!!!

Fish,

I tried installing just right on top. I knew it was a mistake but I was trying to do it quickly and stuff. Now my files are being copied over another hard drive and we're going reformat it and install XP fresh. Shrug.

Hopefully I'll have my desktop up and running by tomorrow because this laptop is terrible. Sometimes my typing gets too fast for the system and it will start jamming words together and stuff, so weird.

today I'm:

taking Sammy Dawg to Red Rock so he can rock climb - I swear, he's half mountain goat;

cleaning the pool;

going to Home Depot to pick up a new sliding screen door (Sammy and the cat keep going right thru the damn things) and a steam cleaner so my rugs don't smell like animal piss;

playing lots of poker in the evening, as it's Saturday and I expect to make at least 4 or 5 buy-ins from the weekend donkeys.

What kind of computer do you have? I probably have the minimum on my lap-top with a P3 and 526 RAM. XP is a very large operating system. Expect to re-install XP at least 3 times. It will take about 4 hours.

Saw them Friday night in Portland ME. great show.
The lead guitarist was a David Lee Roth wannabe, but closer to Joe Dirt in reality ( not his reality).
Everything else was kickass. The drummer was the best since Ginger Baker, he had so many drums and cymbals it looked like he was in a chrome thunder dome. The woman on first keyboard had mad skillz. two of the vocalists were either the strongest voices evah or sound systems have reached a new level.
Excellent effects and lights. Snow even. Seven local musicians did the strings, kind of a 'deer in the headlights' situation, but carried the sound. They were conducted/following/backing a guy with an electric violin...nice effect.
For those who don't know, the first half of the show is a blend of rock and roll xmas songs and a kind of poetic xmas story intertwined. The second half is rock and roll orchestra. When they started the slow beginning of 'Proud Mary' I said it takes huge testicles to try to cover that song. Tina still rules.

Dom - Glad that Sammy is alright. Next time take a camera please (I know you have one on your phone). Also, good job with the vinegar and baking soda. That's what my mom always used to use but I've heard it can leave a stain in the carpeting so I'm not sure about it.

Hyde - that's really odd. I never pictured the TSO to be like that. I guess I didn't realize they were a rock and roll band. I thought they were just an orchestra that performed alternative type music. (I love that one Christmas Canon song they play all the time in the malls.) David Lee Roth wannabe! Haha! Too funny to even imagine. What a description. Sounds like it must have been a lot of fun.

i'll never be sick of pinot, in fact, I'm about to have a new zealand pinot in a little bit

I had a great time, I got there pretty late, but I ran into a girl that I hadn't seen for almost 7 years and exchanged numbers and emails(unfortunetly for me she is still living in new jersey where we went to college, but she does have friends in chicago and just quit her job). So, even though I only got around to 12 wines at teh event itself, I'm still very happy with how everything went

for those that are interested my Tasting notes for my store's pinot tasting are here and here are my notes from Pinot Days

For those that may be interested, Here is a link to all of my notes by region

I probably will have to have something different soon just to change things up. I normally do my drinking in themes, and for the next two months it's pinot, and then in jan, it'll be all burgundy, but, I'm gonna be drinking so damn much pinot this month(I still have another Pinot tasting that I'm to go to at the end of the month) that I really need to drink something else to change things up

What's up "The Lounge." I haven't posted anything talky for a while.

I have a few questions:

I enjoy a good cup of tea. I know that this supposedly looks healthier than a cup of joe, but I have a habit of putting 5 packs of sugar into each cup. One place I go, I get a decanter, and this decanter gives me 2 1/2 cups of tea. So, five cups of tea equals 25 packs of sugar! No wonder I don't go more than once a week.

I use Sugar in the Raw, is this healthier than plain white sugar?

Blarg 11-13-2007 05:47 PM

Re: November \"I FORGOT MY MANTRA\" Low Content chit-chat thread

With good tea you definitely don't need sugar.

And sugar is sugar. You're not going to be getting anything healthier by getting it fancy.

Re: November \"I FORGOT MY MANTRA\" Low Content chit-chat thread

It was Rememberance Sunday here in the UK last Sunday. We commemorate our war dead on the 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11th Month, with a 2 minute silence (sometimes a minute, depending where you are). Even supermarkets announce it, and people stand in silent contemplation.

Two of my sons took part - one is a scout, the other a cub scout - and we all attended the church service, and they marched to an outside service after that as part of their units.

As part of the church service, they read the names of all those fallen that came from our little village - 96 men, many with the same surnames, so brothers or cousins I guess. Dead from both World Wars - and the first World War was the longer list by far.

Do you guys in the US have any Rememberance services or traditions?

Here, it's common for the service to contain the 'last post' bugle and a lowering of flags, and someone reads:

When You Go Home, Tell Them Of Us And Say,
For Your Tomorrow We Gave Our Today

There were war widows at the church and outdoor ceremonies too (from recent conflicts too), and they cried of course, but I hoped that such rememberance, where a large number of the village came to pay respects, helps them somewhat.

It's common in England to have permanent markers or crosses in villages to remember the war dead - originating from the devastation the First World War had on the British population I think. I'm guessing the same is probably true for Aussies, New Zealanders, the French, the Germans and a lot of the Commonwealth, actually. Does the US have that?

Eh, it's probably because our youngsters don't get such ready access to guns, so they have to improvise.

ZING!

Overall, I guess it's our way of keeping match-fit for when the Germans want to have another go. We like to give them something a bit trickier because, let's face it, everyone else is a walkover for them (except the Russians).

That's why the Brits seem to always be in some land war or another, but - shhhhh - don't tell anyone.
