Price will definitely increase under 14 and under 7 days.

Also, there's an Ask Garcia about Hong Kong thread in EDF. He can probably help more regarding the ferries, etc.

Conservatively I would say at least 50% if not 100% or more.

Do you have to book the ferry? I figured I could just buy a ticket when I got to the airport.

Hi, if I do recieve a passport in time my flight will arrive in Hong Kong at 10:05pm. Are their any ferries that will be running this late at night so I can arrive in Macau that night?

[/ QUOTE ]

If you were to arrive in HKIA after the last TurboJet ferry leaves the HKIA ferry terminal at 10pm, you have two options:

1. Stay overnight at a lounge at HKIA. You can rent a "napping" chair and a shower at the 24-hour lounge on Level 7, West Departure Hall, near Gate 36. Spend the night in the lounge until the next morning to catch the first ferry, which leaves the HKIA ferry terminal at 10:50am.

enquiry.pplhk@plaza-asia.com

http://www.hongkongairport.com/eng/tbu/shower.htm

This method does NOT require you to clear customs and immigration in Hong Kong, and does NOT require you to use public transportation in Hong Kong late at night to get to the Sheung Wan ferry terminal.

2. Clear customs and immigration in Hong Kong, take the Airport Express train to the Hong Kong terminal, hire a taxi to the Hong Kong-Macau ferry terminal in Sheung Wan, and take the ferry to Macau Ferry Terminal, where you will have to hire a taxi to get you to the hotel (last shuttle bus leaves at 11:45pm, so you will miss that as well).

I do NOT recommend this option if you are traveling on your own and you don't speak any Cantonese.

--

My advice: try to book something other than Northwest through Tokyo for evening arrival if you can because your connection to Hong Kong will get there very late. (Morning arrival in Tokyo is OK, as you can then connect to a flight to Hong Kong for early afternoon arrival.)

United has 1 nonstop flight to HKIA each from Chicago O'Hare, Los Angeles and San Francisco each day for evening arrival, in time for the 10pm ferry. A number of us will arrive on Tuesday between 6pm and 8pm and will meet up at the HKIA ferry terminal.

Cathay Pacific offers 3 nonstop flights from Los Angeles and 2 nonstop flights from San Francisco, with your choice of early morning arrival (in time for the 10:30am ferry) or
evening arrival (at 7pm, in time for the 10pm ferry). Cathay Pacific has a code-sharing agreement with American Airlines if frequent-flyer miles is an issue.

United offers service from Fargo, which is 80 miles south of Grand Forks.

Fargo to Hong Kong requires only one plane change on United at Chicago O'Hare and you will get to HKIA by 5pm, with plenty of time to spare before the 10pm ferry.

$1098.20 if booked at united.com.

You do have to depart Fargo very early, i.e. 6am departure.

United.com's fare sale from the U.S. to Hong Kong has been extended to November 13.

Thanks for the information! I had been looking and I don't know how I completely forgot about Fargo, I was worried about what I was going to do after reading about the ferry service after 10pm.

P.S. I see that the plane on the return flight leaves Hong Kong at 11:40am, will I be able to catch a ferry early enough to arrive at HK to go through inspection and board the plane?

Yes. First ferry from Macau to HKIA leaves at 8:15am. You should be inside the airport terminal by 9:45am.

Note that you can check your luggage straight through from the Macau ferry terminal onto your United flight. There is no need to reclaim your luggage when you get off the ferry at the HKIA skypier.

Note that you will need to hire a taxi from the hotel at 6:30am to get to the Macau Ferry Terminal by 7am in order to board the 8:15am ferry. TurboJet Sea Express recommends that you arrive at the Macau Ferry Terminal 75 minutes before your ferry departs.

ferries run 24/7. the biggest gap is 4am to 6am, otherwise, ferries run every 15 -30 minutes from HK to Macau.

One of the option is to just take the taxi straight from the airport to the HK ferry terminal, then take the ferry to Macau, and cab to the hotel.

It'd be a nice little adventure.

Matt, Congrats for making this tournament happen so quickly. This is great for poker.

Wow I hate flying. I'm going to have to figure this one out. Seems like it may be worth it. I can't imagine that a private plane is a serious suggestion. Isn't there an Owning Mahoney character out there who has a few hundred k in comps and a desire for a quick LA to Wynn Macau jaunt?

So it looks like it's about 20hrs from LA no matter how you do it. Pretty brutal. Anyone have sidetrips planned before or after?

I looked into a jet, but it was ridiculous. The United LAX - HK flight is 15.5 hours there, 12.5 back. United has/had a deal for $2,700 for business ($25,000 for first if you dont like money).

Seems that you can only sign up for a 6 night package to take advantage of the $100 a night hotel deal. Which sucks somewhat. I'm only going over from HK to play - wanted a few nights only (4)- yet it seems unpossible to arrange.

Why is everyone so concerned about the ferry? You can always get the Airport Express train to Central HK and catch the Turbojet Ferry - it runs 24/7. It'll take a bit longer but you'll have been flying so long it doesn't really make that much difference.

Getting a taxi from the Airport Express station to the Macau ferry terminal should be no problem even speaking English only. Possibly more confusing at the terminal itself, however all signage is in English also. Those ferries run all night so it is a viable option if you can't get the one from the airport. That however does sound more convenient and saves schleping into Hk and back out again.

Chances are you will have to wait for the 22:00 ferry.

Once you arrive at HKIA, you will need to:

1. claim your luggage

2. take your luggage over to the TurboJet Sea Express Macau ferry transfer desk and check in for your ferry

3. take the shuttle bus over to the sky pier, where you will board your ferry

You will need to allow at least 90 minutes at HKIA to transfer from your plane to the ferry.

Hey I got some bad news, had some things come up and its going to be impossible for me to come down to Macau. Not happy about it because I really was looking forward to this trip. I emailed stars about my issues and they are going to set aside the $2500 buyin and the $600 for the hotel as credit for entering any other APPT event. So looks like I won't be playing any of these events until the next season. Unless I stumble upon the other $3000 or whatever I would need for the Sydney APPT tournament.

Hi, this is first time I go to an offline tourney through satellites.

I have a question about the opening party on Nov 22. Is it only for the Stars qualifiers or for all players? As a qualifier will there be a big problem if I can not attend it due to flight schedule? Also how the qualifiers register to the event? I know Stars already has my name and address but not sure how I should proceed.
