Re: Questionable posts by mods. *Official Thread*

[ QUOTE ]
I'm trying to remember a thread where the mods were as intentionally unhelpful as this one.

*TT* and RR in Brick and Mortar

RR and *TT* gave short worthless answers and then threatened to lock the thread just 22 minutes after the thread was created.

[/ QUOTE ]

its a case of knowing who the OP is, it was a thread waiting for misogyny to occur and B&M is not the right place for that type of topic. Neither of us were going to encourage the thread to continue so the best thing to do is cut off the topic at it's knees by acknowledging the OP's questions isn't valid and unless there is some redeeming value we cannot see then the thread will be locked. B&M isn't an off-topic forum, it has a sense of decorum that we try to maintain that would be the same as if you wanted into a casino to play. Nothing overtly derogatory about sex, race, religion, ethnicity is permitted because just like in a real card room some action would be taken if you crossed the line (admittedly the line exists all over the place depending on the card rooms staff). I hope this explains our collective thought process, as you can see we had very good intentions - separately and together.

Tuq - I am actually glad Dynasty made that post! Its a good thread to be used as an example, it lets us communicate our thoughts when there might be miscommunication about a simple day-in-day-out policy.

I'm not sure that its against any official rules, but NT is having a pretty rough night in the "Barry Bonds Indicted" thread in Sporting Events. He's gone the round-about way to basically calling people racists and saying things like "I know you may have never seen one (a book) before" to me in reference to his complete inability to understand what a Son Of Sam law is. He also changed someone's title to "dumbest [censored] hick ever" with his only reasoning being the guy saying "change my title to whatever you see fit". I'm pretty sure at least one line is getting crossed.

Hey, I'm the first to admit that barring the accompanying accusation of racism then we can work around that. Hell, a guy in Sporting Events got the title "Edge34 kicked in HS and college for 5 years" (based off an offhanded comment I made simply to preface a post) because he said he didn't care much either way. There's a line between harmless and insulting. Granted, it was removed right away, but its a little over the top.

I'm not posting this to attack NT (well, I guess in a way I am), but I'm really just wondering where the decorum line is for moderators. Does it only apply to THEIR sub-forum or what?

I think they should post just like everyone else in any forum including their own, beyond obvious hey idiots stop tarding up this thread type of thing. Changing around titles and whatnot should probably be reserved for people that aren't easily hurt emotionally, but it's not like it's actually a big [censored] deal.

Colin's thingies: NT! should call people idiots in every forum but he might want to put the mod wand down when he's drunk. If I were a mod my wand would be set on ban them all after 11 fwiw.

of course i did, he asked me to. but then since i am such a good mod i remembered that we can't give insulting undertitles, even if people ask for them, so i changed it to 'greatest legal mind of his generation ldo'

It didn't quite happen like that, but whatever.

Just to make it clear, I am not going to demand that any action (one way or another) be taken regarding whatever title I've been given. It is more of a reflection on NT and the forum he represents than me.

In the particular thread this happened, it is my opinion that NT crossed the line several times (and not just against me). The most glaring is how he insinuates that three posters that do not agree with him base their opinions on racial motivations. I think that is uncalled for (not to mention incorrect).

I think only action that should be taken is to punish you're gregarious use of parentheses by changing the brackets in your title to parentheses (imo).
